2015 Southwest Energy Arkansas Science and Engineering Fair
Awards Ceremony Script
Dr. Mark Bland-Welcome
The 2015 Arkansas Science and Engineering Fair, sponsored by Southwest Energy, was held April 3-4, 2015, on the campus of
the University of Central Arkansas, in Conway, AR. The awards ceremony was held Saturday, April 4 th, 2015. At the awards
ceremony over $15,000 in cash prizes are given away to students and over $20,000 will be spent sending the ISEF finalists to
compete at the International Science Fair. This would not be possible without the sponsorship of Southwestern Energy and the
Arkansas State Legislature.
Junior Academy of Sciences will present their awards first.
The American Chemical Society will present a special award to first place in biochemistry and chemistry.
Biochemistry: Miriam Hauer-Jensen
Chemistry: Mathew Lin
The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture will present the AR Soybean Challenge
Every attempt has been made to ensure the accuracy of the awards given to students. However, because of the volume of awards and the time frame that the
awards committee has to work with, errors -- while unlikely -- may occur. If errors in awards are discovered, appropriate adjustments will be made after the fair.
First Place Prizes: $300, Second Place Prizes: $200, Third Place Prizes: $100, Honorable Mention Winners: Certificate

School Trophies –these trophies are determined by the number of points each school accumulated based on their place
award winners divided by the total number of projects entered in the fair from the database of entries. To be eligible for these
trophies, the schools that had the median number of projects entered in the fair (or higher) were considered. Those that did
not meet the median number of entries are encouraged to bring more students to next year’s fair.
5th place: Alma
4th place: Alpena
3rd place: Little Rock Central High
2nd place: Pulaski Academy
1st place: ASMSA
School packets are available for one teacher from each school to pick up at the awards' table. In each packet will be the
judges' score sheets. The script of the awards ceremony will be posted on the Arkansas Science and Engineering Fair
website.
In addition, students are asked to send "Thank you" notes to the contributors to the fair and sponsors of the awards you
received. Instructions regarding to whom to address your note, as well as the mailing address for the sponsor, were included
with your award certificate. Please take the time to write your “thank you notes” so that we can continue to have the support
of these organizations, and so that they can know who won their award and congratulate you individually.
All ISEF FINALISTS received their trading pins for this year’s International Science and Engineering Fair at the awards
ceremony. Don’t forget to pack those for the trip! Pin trading is a tradition among the states and countries attending ISEF and
the pin trading party is a great way to meet your fellow finalists from around the world!
