PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Vice President of Talent Management serves as an integral part of United Way of Metropolitan Chicago’s
senior leadership team with specific accountabilities to lead the alignment of culture, talent and organizational
design required to support the Live United 2020 Strategic Goals. This position will provide the opportunity for
an experienced, innovative and strategic Human Resources professional to create and implement an integrated
Talent Management program to support the development and full realization of people’s potential, ensure
organizational alignment and focused and inclusive use of human capital to deliver on the organization’s
mission, priorities and strategies.
S/he serves as an advisor and decision-maker to senior management and the organization as a whole on all
talent management policies for United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, as well as an area expert on benefits, state
and federal regulations, compensation, performance management and training matters. In this role s/he will
advance the organization’s diversity and inclusion strategy recommending, developing, implementing both
internal and external diversity related strategies, partnership, programs and initiatives.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
 Develops a strong understanding of the organizational structure, operations, business objectives, values and
culture in order to effectively develop and implement talent management and change management
integrated strategies that compliment the organization’s culture and align and support the achievement of
the company’s strategic business objectives
 Coaches and supports the business while providing strategic human resources partnership. Provides
grounded talent management, organizational development and organizational design expertise and serves as
a trusted, credible advisor to Senior Leaders that provides insightful observation, act as a change leader and
support the business by driving results.
 Develops plan to maximize talent assessment and development, succession planning, performance
management and organizational/individual development programs. Identifies short/long term skills gaps.
Manages development investments to close gaps, accelerate internal development, retain high performers,
and ensure development of emerging talent.
 Collaborates with executive leadership, board and committee volunteer leadership and all business unit
leaders to develop an organizational culture focused on mission, performance results, leadership, inclusion,
innovation and talent development.
 Provides vision, leadership, coordination and strategic planning for diversity and inclusive excellence
throughout the organization.
 Designs, implements and evaluates competitive compensation and benefits programs that provide
motivation, incentive and rewards for achieving results. Continually assesses the competitiveness of all
programs to ensure systems for equitable compensation provided are within the organization’s established
resource parameters.
 Develops and manages employee benefit programs including group insurance and retirement programs and
manages vendor relationships.
 Ensures compliance with a variety of federal, state and local labor, employment and benefit laws, rules and
regulations.
 Evaluates and recommends personnel policies and procedures, ensuring that they are legally compliant and
uniformly enforced and interpreted across the organization.
 Develops and maintains a responsive employee relations program which provides for individual counseling &
assistance and organization-wide communications.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
 Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management/Organizational Development or related field; Master’s
degree preferred, SPHR certification preferred
 10+ years experience in Human Resources, with a minimum 7 years in a senior management role responsible
for both strategic and tactical aspects of Talent Management
 Strong organizational development/design and change management experience with ability to lead, plan,
manage and implement change.
 Ability to understand and articulate the strategic value of integrated Talent Management processes with a
strong business acumen, customer service orientation, excellent diplomacy and influence skills.
 Excellent knowledge and experience implementing and addressing contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion
and multiculturalism concepts and issues.
 Knowledge of all areas of human resource management including compensation, benefits, integrated talent
management practices, employee relations, recruitment and retention, and professional training and
development initiatives.
 Demonstrated experience designing and implementing effective, respected diversity and inclusion initiatives.
 Proven track record of building innovative human resources programs integrated with organizational goals
and creating and managing performance management systems.
 Skilled communicator. Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to present
information to all levels of staff and to the Board.
 A participatory management and leadership style that encourages high-performance, collaboration,
cooperation and personal growth. Demonstrated ability to coordinate the activities of cross-functional teams
across multiple divisions.
