TEACHER OF FRENCH AND GERMAN SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Modern Foreign Languages Department at King’s College is high-achieving and thriving. Bi-lingual at a very early age, our pupils on the whole are natural linguists and the results at both IGCSE and A Level are consistently exceptional. Pupils are motivated, hard-working and keen to succeed, which makes teaching and working generally within the College very fulfilling. There are presently five fulltime members of staff, working collaboratively on the delivery of French (up to and including A Level), German (up to IGCSE), and the teaching of Spanish to non-native speakers (up to and including A Level). The College introduced IGCSE German to the curriculum in Year 10 for the first time in September 2012 and the successful candidate could expect to have a timetable that reflects a predominance of French teaching, alongside a smaller allocation of German teaching (which also includes taster courses in KS3). He/She will take responsibility for the planning of the IGCSE German course delivery, including the creation of a scheme of work which adequately covers all aspects of the course. As such, the most suitable candidates will have experience of teaching both languages up to a minimum of GCSE standard (preferably at A Level in French) and across both Key Stages 3 and 4. The ability to teach German at A Level would also be a distinct advantage as the school may consider including the subject within the 6th Form programme in the future. Aside from the wide-ranging extra-curricular programme on offer to students, the MFL Department also runs ‘Language Clinics’ at lunch times and after school to assist those who may be having difficulties with their studies or those who want to learn beyond the syllabus. The appointed candidate will be expected to involve themselves in this process, including German Clubs for interested KS3 pupils as a foundation to IGCSE study. The most suitable candidates will have experience of teaching very successfully across the Secondary spectrum, with a genuine passion for their subject. They will have demonstrated an irrefutable commitment to academic excellence (stretching the most able) through reflective and dynamic practice, and will be able to validate the positive impact they have made to the pupils they have taught in the past. Candidates interested in a residential post within boarding should indicate this on their application. Responsibility posts such as Head of House, Academic Coordinator and Pastoral Coordinator may be available internally once the initial appointment has been made. Applications should be made using the online Teaching Application Form, and submitted electronically to our recruitment agents Compass via the email address below: kings@compassteaching.com Interviews will take place in London during the week beginning Monday 24 February.
