Unpacked Standard:
At this level, students focus on word acquisitions and use. The intent of the CCSS is to introduce
grammatical knowledge in basic ways that will be relearned in more sophisticated contexts in
the upper grades. At that time, students will determine the meaning of unknown words and
phrases by using structural and context clues.
