***Character Cut-Out Book Project*** **Award Winner** Due Date__________________________ Genre: Award Winning Fiction Novel. Examples of book awards are Newbery Medal, Newbery Honor Book, Coretta Scott-King Award, Pura Belpre Award. **There are many other children’s book awards. The book you choose doesn’t have to be from the awards mentioned above. Just make sure that the book you choose for your project is an award winner. Materials Needed: 1-piece of white tag board (22 x 28) I WILL GIVE YOU THE PIECE OF TAG BOARD!! Other materials~ fabric, buttons, paint, crayon, yarn, felt, ribbon, glitter, sequins, jewels. Anything that you want to add to your cut-out to make it look as authentic as possible. Directions: #1- Choose an award winning novel to read. Start reading ASAP. Choose a main character form the story to focus on. Take notes as you read about that character: appearance, actions, changes….etc. #2- From the tag board make a “cut out” figure of the character that you have chosen. (like a paper doll) Make sure your cut out is the size of the tag board. *Dress your cut out to make it look as authentic as possible*. Use some of the above listed materials. **If you don’t have anything at home to use I will help you gather some items.** #3- Make a medal to display somewhere on your character. On the medal show the name of the award that your book won and the year that the award was presented. #4-You are going to choose three character traits that describe your character.(Examples of personal qualities: courageous, loving, selfish, greedy, friendly, proud, polite, intelligent etc.) Don’t write about what they look like, I want to know about their personality. **Write one paragraph for each character trait that you have chosen. Make sure the traits you chose describe different qualities that your character possess. Make sure you support your qualities with facts, examples & details. Paragraphs need to be at least 5 sentences each.* **3 Paragraphs Total**
