Job Title: Social Media Coordinator – Mandarin Chinese
Reporting Line: Manchester-China Forum Project

Salary: £16,000 per annum pro-rata (15 hours per
week, £6620 per annum)

JOB PURPOSE
The Manchester-China Forum is a business-led initiative aimed at increasing Greater Manchester’s commercial
connectivity, including trade and investment with China. As an essential member of a small team, the Social
Media Coordinator will support the Forum team and lead on the management of the Forum’s social media
activities, supporting the Forum to achieve its goals. The role also involves engaging with key partners and the
local Chinese student community, and providing general support of the Forum’s activities.
KEY TASKS
Key tasks
 Maintain and update Twitter and Weibo Manchester-China Forum accounts
 Assess the requirement for WeChat and additional accounts in long term
 Produce regular updates on all networks which are relevant to the Manchester-China Forum to include
topics such as events, business updates, student activity
 Engage in the Chinese student community in order to create an online forum for all things ‘Chinese in the
city’
 Build and maintain relationships with external key partners to obtain relevant material/promotions to use
on all social media networks for campaigns
 Increase the number of followers on all networks by means of promotion and use of interesting material to
capture new members
 Develop a Manchester Alumni base
 Provide general support to the Manchester China Forum team, including various support to its regular
networking events
 Liaise with senior stakeholders of universities in and around Greater Manchester to obtain funding for
student projects and provide general support to them through social media networks
RESPONSIBILITIES (e.g. staff, budget, premises)
The post holder currently would have no direct responsibility for staff or budgets but this will be kept under
review.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
Capable of:
 Representing the Manchester-China Forum at meetings, participating in the business at hand
 Dealing appropriately with senior staff internally and externally
 Prioritising own work and working with minimal supervision, judging accurately what is important
 Maintaining good links within the student community
Experience/understanding of:
 Social Media network management
 Culture awareness and the knowledge of the China social media trend and localisation, etc.
 Business/commercial awareness
 Project management
 Research
Skilled in:
 Drafting and writing social media posts
 Translation between English and Mandarin Chinese
 Being actively involved in the local Chinese community
 Translating/relaying complicated terminology/messages to different audiences
 Use of office IT systems, particularly Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel
Personal Qualities:
 Self-starter, able to work on own initiative
 Good organiser
 Appreciation of team work
 Customer focused, presenting a positive manner in dealing with external parties
 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
