opportunities.
Maude Moore Wood - This scholarship, provided through the estate of Maude Moore Wood, has
as its purpose providing financial assistance for post-secondary education to “underprivileged
children” (language in the will). The KISD Board will consider various factors in determining
students in need. Recipients of the scholarship shall be selected from the graduating classes of
the current year from Killeen, Ellison, Harker Heights, and Shoemaker high schools. Recipients
must attend a public or private, two-year or four-year institution of higher education or a career
or vocational training program which has a program of at least two years.
Parrie Haynes - This scholarship, provided through the estate of Parrie Haynes, has as its
purpose providing financial assistance for KISD graduates attending (a minimum of 12 credit
hours per semester) a “four year, state-controlled college or university in Texas.” Traditionally,
these scholarships are awarded to students with very high academic standing. Recipients of
the scholarship shall be selected from the graduating classes of the current year from Killeen,
Ellison, Harker Heights, and Shoemaker high schools.
Junior Cross - This scholarship, provided through the estate of Ira E. Cross, Jr., has as its purpose
providing financial assistance for post-secondary education (a minimum of 12 credit hours per
semester) to “underprivileged children.” The KISD Board will consider various factors in
determining students in need. Recipients of the scholarship shall be selected from the graduating
classes of the current year from Killeen, Ellison, Harker Heights, and Shoemaker high schools.
When applicable, at least one of these scholarships shall be awarded to a student who has taken
high school agriculture courses and/or been active in the 4-H programs. Students interested in this
scholarship should specify any courses taken in agriculture in the high school years or identify
activities in the 4-H program.
Franklin and Emily E. Pratt - This scholarship, provided through the estate of Franklin and Emily E.
Pratt has as its purpose providing assistance to students with significant financial need who wish to
pursue their studies (a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) in the academic department of
any accredited two- year or four-year institution of higher education including accredited
career/vocational schools approved by the selection committee. Recipients of the scholarship
shall be selected from the graduating classes of the current year from Killeen, Ellison, Harker
Heights, and Shoemaker high schools.
A scholarship application may be requested from the counselors at Ellison, Killeen, Shoemaker, and
Harker Heights High Schools. A scholarship application may also be downloaded at:

submitted to the school counselors’ office. The deadline for submission of an application is
Monday, April 14, 2014.
The respective high school campuses have established a screening process to identify six students
from each high school who will advance to the interview phase of the selection process. Interviews
for the Maude Moore Wood, Parrie Haynes, Ira Cross, Jr., and Franklin & Emily E. Pratt scholarships
will be conducted on Thursday, May 22, 2014 by the KISD Board of Trustees, Superintendent, and
members of the Superintendents’ staff. Recipients will be selected from among those students
interviewed.
Other scholarship and grant programs are available to graduating seniors at their individual
campuses. If you are interested in obtaining more information about the scholarships in this letter
