New Member Mentorship Program
The Mentorship Program has been designed to enhance membership retention as a
result of our already developed member recruiting strategy.
New Member Welcome / First Program Invitation:
 2012 Program Information is posted under the Meetings & Events tab of the
website (lashrm.shrm.org). It is the mentor’s responsibility to know which events
are coming up.
 Mentor sends an email to the new member with the link to RSVP to the upcoming
Monthly Program. Via email or phone, a time and location to meet prior to the
meeting is arranged. An email template will be available on the website.
 Mentor sends a reminder email to the new member the Monday prior to the
Monthly Program.
 Mentor calls or emails the new member the day of the Program.
 Mentor sits with new member for the Monthly Program, introduces to other
LASHRM members.
Second Program Invitation:
 Mentor emails committee information and RSVP reminder for the next Monthly
Program on the 1st of the month.
 Mentor sends a reminder email to the new member the Monday prior to the
Monthly Program on Wednesday.
New Member Follow Up (conducted by the Membership Committee):
 90 days after joining, call new member to see if he/she has any questions, asks
about committee interest, invites them to the next Monthly Program (or
Symposium, Membership Appreciation, State Conference, etc.).
 Collect questions from our new members so that we can create – and publicize –
‘Frequently Asked Questions’ on our website.
Current members are encouraged to apply to be a mentor; the following guidelines will
be applied when applications are received:
 Must be a current member (dues paid)
 Must be an active member. Active membership is defined as attending at least
50% of the programs.
 If unable to attend a Monthly Program that you have scheduled with your
mentee, it is your responsibility to find another LASHRM member to attend on
your behalf.
Mentors will be recognized at Membership Appreciation.
