Emmylou Harris and Her Red Dirt Boys
Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 7:00 pm
VIP $53.00 / $48.00 / $43.00 / $38.00
Already celebrated as a discoverer and interpreter of other artists’ songs, 12-time Grammy Award winner
Emmylou Harris has, in the last decade, gained admiration as much for her eloquently straightforward songwriting
as for her incomparably expressive singing. In fact, few in pop or country music have achieved such honesty or
revealed such maturity in their writing. Forty years into her career, Harris shares the hard-earned wisdom that—
hopefully if not inevitably—comes with getting older, though she’s never stopped looking ahead. Harris’ new CD,
Hard Bargain, touches on the autobiographical while reaching for the universal. Join us for a truly special evening
of music from an industry icon.

Even as defining as his platinum pop and worship albums have become, there is yet another musical side to
Michael W. Smith that is as passionate and creative. Glory, the twenty-third career album from this Grammy
winner, feeds the enthusiasm its predecessor (Freedom) stirred and soundly exceeds expectations. It is a sweeping
cinematic statement rich in melodies, emotional range and musical twists. “I’ve been given this amazing platform
to sing about the truth, and I have to stay that course, especially in terms of doing concerts” he says. “If I had to
give you one word to describe this record, it would be ‘journey,’” Smith concludes. “Everyone is on a journey, and I
love how the journey ends on this album.” Come hear for yourself how inspiring it truly is.

Smokey Robinson
Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 8:00 pm
VIP $92.00 / $77.00 / 67.00 / 52.00
With his eternally smooth and instantly recognizable falsetto alone – without the strings, bass, guitar or drums –
legendary singer/songwriter/producer Smokey Robinson’s honey-coated voice absolutely is the audio equivalent
of comfort food … comfort food for the soul … with soul. In following with the aforementioned definition, the
Motown legend’s forthcoming ROBSO Records CD, Time Flies When You’re Having Fun, has certainly been
“prepared in a traditional style,” while that oh-so-familiar, highly identifiable crooning has an indisputable
“nostalgic or sentimental appeal.”
Ravi Coltrane Quartet
Friday, April 12, 2013 at 8:00 pm
Music & Theatre Hall
Zones 1 & 2 $47
Ravi Coltrane is at the forefront of the restless few who are carving up new paths in jazz. Down Beat called him, “A
modernist who has absorbed a wealth of jazz [and] those influences are couched so well, resulting in a unique
sound, best described as ‘elusive beauty.’” Passionately committed to the value of “working bands,” Ravi pulls
together like-minded individuals who can contribute to the group, moving their repertoire forward with original
compositions and fresh takes on jazz standards. Their shared creativity energizes both live performances and
recordings, earning a Grammy Nomination for IN FLUX and critical acclaim for BLENDING TIMES (2009). BLENDING
TIMES is both an emotive and technically mature expression from a burgeoning master of the saxophone.
“Somehow there is no disputing heredity,” noted jazzpolice.com, “yet there also is no doubt that this Coltrane has
taken his own Giant Steps. Genius here extends across generations, the son’s path informed, not confined, by the
name Coltrane.”
“An explosion of rhythmic and melodic sequences that float through the air with grace.”
--JazzWeekly
“Blending Times is Ravi’s most emotionally charged, fully realized statement to date.”
