Goods & Services Tax – GST – a comprehensive tax levy proposed on
manufacture, sale and consumption of goods and services at a national
level; is one of the biggest taxation reforms in India and is all set to
integrate Centre and State economics and boost overall growth. The
Cabinet on 29th July 2015 cleared the amendments suggested by Rajya
Sabha Select Committee to the Proposed GST Constitutional
Amendments Bill; the implementation of GST from 1st April 2016 is
almost a reality.
GST is an unknown economical, political, policy and administrative
challenge. Hence, many companies in corporate India specially the
Pharmaceutical Industry are concerned and unware about the real
implications of GST. Whilst uncertainty and anxiety exits in the
Pharmaceutical Industry, experts opine that GST may help in
rationalizing the tax structure and could be the single biggest shot in
the arm for the Pharmaceutical sector.
