Shofstall Scholarship was established during the 1991-92 school year by funds entrusted to the Adair County R-I School Board of Education by the late Jacquelyn D. Shofstall. The income from this trust will be given to a senior graduate from Adair County R-I School to continue his/her education. The name of the recipient will be announced at commencement exercises held at the end of each school year. The following are the criteria for awarding the scholarship. The name of the scholarship will be the Jacquelyn D. Shofstall Scholarship. The scholarship may be used to attend a vocational school, technical school, or a college or university. The “Application Form for the Jacquelyn D. Shofstall Scholarship” must be completed and on file in the guidance office or the principal’s office by the deadline date established by the counselor. A letter of admission from a vocational school, technical school, or a college or university must accompany the scholarship application form. The scholarship applicant must: 1. Be a graduating senior of Adair County R-I School. The graduate is eligible to receive the scholarship only during the year of graduation. 2. Must have been a student of Adair County R-I School for (3) three full semesters during grades nine (9) through twelve (12). The scholarship funds will be divided over the duration of the recipient’s education program, not to exceed two years. (If a person is enrolled in an educational program lasting two years or more, the funds will be divided equally based on the number of terms or semesters during the first two-year period. For an educational program lasting less than two years, the funds will be divided equally based on the number of terms or semesters in the educational program.) The scholarship funds may not be used to attend more than one vocational school, technical school, college or university. The scholarship recipient must begin using the scholarship funds within ten (10) months after date of graduation and all funds must be used within four (4) years of graduation. The recipient may submit a written request to the Board of Education for additional time. Reasons for such request might include illness, serving in the armed forces, or other personal or family circumstance. The written request must state the reason additional time is needed. Any unused or unclaimed scholarship funds will be returned to the original trust. A scholarship committee will meet prior to April twentieth to review the scholarship applications and make a recommendation to the Board of Education regarding who should be the recipient of the Jacqueline D. Shofstall Scholarship. The committee shall consist of the Vice-president of the Board of Education and four (4) teachers appointed by the principal. The guidance counselor will serve as chairperson and non-voting advisor to the committee. The Board of Education will meet prior to graduation during a regular special session to review the recommendations of the scholarship committee. The Board of Education will then officially select the recipient of the Jacquelyn D. Shofstall Scholarship. The recipient’s name will be announced during graduation. The Board of Education will review the criteria for awarding the Jacquelyn D. Shofstall Scholarship and make any necessary changes as the need arises. Application Form for the JACQUELYN D. This PTO Scholarship is to be awarded to two graduating seniors of Novinger High School to be used the following school year only. (This wouldn’t include the short summer session.) 2. The scholarship will be to an accredited Community College, four-year college or university, accredited vocational or trade school. The scholarship will pay fees of $500. 3. The student is required to be enrolled as a full-time student in the college, university, vocational or trade school. 4. The scholarship award will be presented at the graduation exercises. An alternate will be selected and contacted in the event that the first student doesn’t attend school. 5. Applicants must have a 2.5 (C+) cumulative grade point average.
