Adelphi University: Facilitating Institution CICU NYSED Faculty Professional Development Topics PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TOPICS AND RESOURCES Revised May 5, 2013 NOTE: Visit newly launched WEBSITE: www.isnetworked.org (added 5/3/2013) The Independent Sector Faculty Development initiative is part of the state’s Race to the Top grant, made possible with NYSED-awarded federal ARRA funds. The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu) is providing statewide professional development opportunities and coordination for the project with local programming and activities across the state facilitated through five regional collaborations. This website will provide ongoing information, resources and communication tools to help faculty access information that addresses the changes in teacher and school leader certification, and teacher and principal performance evaluations; discusses data-driven instruction, and; provides updates on implementation of the Common Core standards and its impact on academic content preparation. Each of the five Regions has their own dedicated page on the site. The site will be updated regularly and continue to evolve with added research, resources and professional development opportunities Regional Input (Long island/NYC 2) From input gathered from committee members covering the meetings of 2/14/13, 2/26/13, and 4/12/13, the prospective professional development topics include the following (in order of concern/priority): I. Perhaps of all the discussed topics, this particular one not only generated the most interest and concern, but also many other and specific related sub-topics within this category. They included the following: edTPA and its impact on college/university accreditation edTPA scoring and assessment edTPA alignment with CCSS edTPA and availability for specific licensures edTPA understanding the 5 point scale and scoring rubrics edTPA and personnel trained to do the scoring edTPA and logistics (specifically technology infrastructure – platform provider included would be the needed hardware and software) edTPA and venue in preparing students for this assessment edTPA and video samples (impact on k-12 partners, confidentiality of k-12 students, liability and willingness of districts needed to support student teachers) edTPA – role of cooperating teacher; role of supervising faculty member edTPA cost to the students/tuition edTPA - integrating academic language into instruction edTPA Frameworks for the 'Educating All Students' Assessment edTPA Mapping – When and where do candidates learn about the competencies/proficiencies of edTPA (added 5/3 meeting of LIDEP) ed TPA - Professional Development - Delivery Models Workshops/locally developed conferences/seminars – both within a region or across more than one region Videotaping and archiving live workshops, conferences or workshops Webinars – allows (time) flexibility in viewing presentations of the specific topics. Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Topics for professional development within the CCSS category include the following: CCSS and alignment with edTPA CCSS and understanding and identifying math and ELA standards CCSS and understanding and identifying emerging science standards CCSS and the inclusion of faculty from school of education and arts and sciences CCSS curriculum mapping and planning CCSS introduction and implementation in teacher education programs and courses.
