Eco Driver Training - Funding for Training: A Guide
Background
Southampton City Council has been successful in receiving funding from the Department for Transport's Local
Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) to be spent until March 2016.The fund was established to enable economic
growth and carbon reduction through sustainable travel modes working in partnership with the local community.
To encourage businesses to develop sustainable practises in their approach to how they operate vehicles, My
Journey are offering businesses the opportunity to offer in car eco-driver training to staff for free. In the last 12
months 250 people from businesses across the Southampton city have benefitted on average increasing their
miles per gallon by 19.8%
.
Training
There are numerous benefits in offering Eco Driver Training to your staff these include:
- Reducing fuel consumption, potentially saving hundreds of pounds a year per driver.
- Increasing miles per gallon, the average saving is 15%
- Lowering the risk of vehicle accidents
- Reducing vehicle wear and tear
- Improve your CSR Demonstrating your commitment to the environment and surrounding
community
The training is approved by the Energy Saving Trust and delivered by highly experienced DVSA-registered
Fleet Trainers. Each participant completes an initial drive and debrief followed by training input and then a
final drive utilizing the training provided. Fuel consumption pre and post training is recorded
The training is relevant to all drivers and is based on extensive research into the technical and behaviour
issues associated with reducing fuel consumption
The training lasts for 1 hour per person and starts at your business on a date and time to suit you. At the
end of the training we will provide information on average savings.
Minimum of 3 people to run the course, all participants must bring copies of their driving licence. Spaces
are limited and are given on a first come basis.
