Dear Parents/Carers,
It’s hard to believe we’re only in our third week back from Christmas – we have all been so
busy in school. The children have enjoyed trips and visits, workshops and performances from
musicians and poets, and there’s
plenty more to come. Please look
out for ways that you can be
involved over the coming weeks.
English Chamber Orchestra
Last week the children were treated to
the inspirational sounds and skills of the
English Chamber Orchestra. All children
in Year 2 took part in workshops and
composed their own pieces of music.
Then some groups got to perform in
front of their parents and all the infant
children. They proved to be really
confident musicians and conductors.
We all also got to join in with a certain
popular song from Frozen. Thanks
everyone for raising the roof!
Rokesly PSA
Summer Half-term
25 – 29 May 2015
All parents and carers are invited to join the next PSA meeting Wednesday 21st January. The meeting will
be in the Dining Hall from 7.30pm and all parents who attend will be treated to a school lunch form our
new school meals provider, Absolutely Catering. Come along and find out what the children have been
getting so excited about. For those not familiar with lunch arrangements - the dining hall is in the Junior building. We look forward to
seeing you there. This week staff, children and the school council have been helping to make changes to the school lunch menu to
make it even better. You can plan your child’s lunch online by following FOOD AND HEALTH link in the Parents and community
section of our website
Scooter pods
Year 1 and 2 now have their very own scooter pods at the back of the Infant hall.
This will help us to keep your child’s scooter safe during the school day. Please
encourage your child to use the pods rather than the crowded Junior shed.
We love you to bring your scooter or bike to school, but please remind your child
not to ride in the playground as it is dangerous for other children and adults at
drop-off and pick-up time.
Grass Area
Because of recent poor weather, the grassy area and hill at the will be out of
bounds to children and parents to avoid damage.
Please make sure you walk, scoot and buggy on the widened tarmac paths so as
not to further damage the grass. Thank you.
Rokesly Literacy Festival Monday 2nd – Friday 6th March
This term we are really pleased to be joining our activities and celebrations with the Junior School. Events already planned are a
poetry competition, author visits, school newsletter written by the children and a special ‘Mix-up’ morning where children from both
schools will work together. Of course we will also have our dressing up day where children can come to school as their favourite
story characters on Friday 6th March. We are looking for adults who have a background in writing or illustration to come in and
inspire the children to be even more avid readers and writers. Thank you if you have already offered expertise or help for the week –
if not, please look out for the letter from Amanda.

Car users at pick-up and drop-off
Concerns have been raised about the number of car users parking illegally or without consideration for others at pick-up and dropoff time. We have also received complaints from our neighbours about cars parked inconsiderately across driveways and obstructing
the entrance to Mulberry Close. The parking restrictions on Elmfield Avenue and Hermiston Avenue are there to ensure clear sight
lines for motorists and children outside schools. Cars parked illegally make crossing
the road dangerous for our children. With parking outside schools limited, children
are often faced with the problem of trying to negotiate a safer place to cross the
road. In UK, nearly 300 children are admitted to hospital every day because of
accidents and tragically, nearly every day one child dies. Most of these accidents
happen during morning and after school runs. We want to ensure that all children
and adults are able to cross the roads around Rokesly safely. Members of the
Haringey Parking Enforcement team will be working every morning and afternoon
to ensure the roads around the school are safe and issuing Penalty Charge Notices
to car users who make crossing dangerous for our children.
Please park legally and with consideration for others.
