September, 2015
Thank you to the Verdi community for making me feel so welcomed in coming to Verdi
Elementary School as your principal. This is a wonderful community, and I look
forward to working with all of our students and meeting all of our families in the near
future. I have an open door policy, so please feel free to come by should you have any
questions or concerns. During the first few weeks of school, our teachers are gathering
data around student performance; we’ll use that data to drive instructional planning and
delivery, as well as to ensure that the needs of all students are met. Have a great
month…Dr. Kehoe
Legislative Update…This past Spring, the Nevada Legislature passed
SB 391, the Read by Three Act, a comprehensive reading bill aimed at
improving student achievement. The bill includes early identification
and parental notification of reading deficiencies, intensive reading
interventions for students in need of additional support and retention at
the end of third grade, with more intensive interventions, as a last
resort. SB391 funds have provided Verdi with two full day Kindergarten
classes which will help get our youngest learners off to a great start in
school!!
Thank you…We want to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone involved
in getting our tennis courts here at the school completed. We are
excited to begin PE classes to teach the students tennis.
Parking Lot…If you are dropping off or picking up your student before
or after school, please begin doing so in the parking spaces out on the
street in front of the school. Once you drop off or pick up your student
out front, there is a walkway along the fence that is safe for everyone to
use. The parking lot is reserved ONLY for the buses and handicap
parking during drop off and pick up times (8:45 to 9:15 and 2:50 to
3:20). The buses are very large and it is unsafe to have our students
and/or parents walking in between the buses during these times.
Cookie Dough is Here…The 6th grade class is starting their annual
cookie dough fundraiser this Friday and it will run through the morning
of Tuesday, September 15th. Please support the 6th graders effort to
fund our science camp trip that they will be attending in June. If you
do not personally know a 6th grader and would like to purchase some
cookie dough, please stop by room B5 and see Mrs. Nall.
Change Up…We have a change we need you to make in your Verdi
School Calendar. We will be having our BINGO night on Tuesday,
January 26th and moving our Science Night to Tuesday, February 23rd.
Please be sure to make these changes in your school calendar.
Mark your Calendars…The Run for Education is set for Sunday, October 18th at
Scheels at Legends Mall. This is a family and community fitness fair with fun
activity stations for all to enjoy. Families can participate in 5K, 10K, Marina March
or ½ mile Fun Run. We will have a bus available to take students to the event.
Watch for a sign up flyer to come home with your child. Verdi needs only 20
students to participate for our school to receive money to use towards physical
education. Please contact the office should you have any questions.
Verdi Community Library...The Verdi Community Library is open for public hours
on Wednesday from 3-7pm and on Saturday from 10am-4pm. Please visit the
library.
