Nicholas Burr has joined the teaching staff working as an assistant to the two Year 1 groups. While still at university Mr Burr worked as playground assistant at Numont during the university holidays and his year off. He attended the University of Bedford for 3 years doing “Childhood and Youth Studies”. He is himself a former Numont student who attended Numont from the age of 2 until 11 years. Miss Olivia has spent many years teaching children arts, crafts and music. Residential visit to Cañada Real Years 5 & 6 went to Cañada Real from Monday 29th September until Wednesday 1st October. They were accompanied by their class teachers, Miss Smith, Mrs Kennedy and Miss Karen. The monitors at Cañada Real organized many educational and fun activities, including soap and candle making, decorating plant pots, planting vegetables, archery, map reading, nature workshops looking at animal footprints and bones, and they also enjoyed a barbecue and a disco. It is a great experience for the children and many thanks to the teachers for giving up their time. CHARITY APPEALS The collection of old toys was very successful. The British Ladies Association will be selling them at their Christmas Bazaar and all monies raised will go to various charities. Many thanks to all the parents who donated toys. As always the response from Numont School families was marvellous. The Bazaar will take place Sunday, 24th November 2013 between 12 noon and 6 pm at Mauricio Legendre 16 (between Plaza de Castilla and Chamartin Station). Parking available. The entrance fee is 3€ for adults and 1€for children between the ages of 3 and 10 years old. There will be a Jumble sale held at St George’s Church (C/Nuñez de Balboa 43) on Saturday 25 th October from 11.00 to 14.00pm. The “jumble” for sale includes second-hand books, clothes and accessories at very low prices. In November we will be sending out our annual request for donations of food (dry food, such as rice, pasta, tins, etc), and men’s clothing. All these donations go directly to the “Albergue Santa Maria” which is a centre for homeless men in Sanchinarro. The centre provides food, clothing and a bed for nearly 150 homeless men and also gives classes and workshops where the men can learn new skills which help them become more integrated into society. All donations may be brought into the office. NUMONT BOOK CLUB The Numont Book Club takes place every term. It is a great way for parents and children to buy Englishbooks at great prices. Also by ordering through the Numont Book Club website http://eu-schools.scholastic.co.uk/numont-school by the deadline parents can save the cost of delivery as all the books are delivered free of charge to the school.
