APRIL 2014 IMPORTANT TRAFFIC NOTIFICATION
Dear Resident:
As I noted in a recent letter, Folsom will host the Individual Time Trial for America’s largest cycling event,
the Amgen Tour of California, on Monday, May 12. Hosting this event is an exciting opportunity for our
community. However, it will also create traffic impacts along the race course and nearby roadways,
including the Historic District where the race starts and ends. The race course will be open during peak
morning and evening commute times, but will be closed from approximately 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Please keep reading to learn about traffic impacts for YOUR neighborhood.
Road closures (9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)






Rainbow Bridge and Folsom Lake Crossing closed
Lake Natoma Crossing limited to one lane per direction
Folsom-Auburn Rd limited to one southbound lane (no northbound traffic)
East Natoma St closed between Folsom Lake Crossing and Blue Ravine
Green Valley Rd closed between the County line and East Natoma St
Riley St closed between Sutter St and Leidesdorff St in the Historic District

Expect significant delays near race course
Emergency services will be provided with assistance from partner agencies
Transit routes will be altered; Dial-a-Ride will be provided but may experience delays
Historic Folsom Light Rail Station will be available for event spectators only; commuter light rail
service begins at Glenn Station (use Glenn, Iron Point or Hazel stations)
Important Notes for Most Impacted Neighborhoods
Historic District




Riley St/Rainbow Bridge will be closed between Natoma and Folsom-Auburn Rd
Sutter St and Leidesdorff St closed between Folsom Blvd and Scott St
Reading, Decatur, and Wool closed between Figueroa and Leidesdorff
Please note – Event parking will NOT be allowed on residential streets between Natoma and
Figueroa. Starting at 8:30 a.m., residents exiting the neighborhood will receive “return
passes” from public safety volunteers to make it easier to return home during race hours.
Hillswood Drive/Deerwood Way area (east of Folsom-Auburn Road)
 No access to/from Folsom-Auburn Rd via Hillswood Dr or any private driveway
 Exit the area via Oak Ave Pkwy
 Pick up Carl Sundahl students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to Valley Pines Dr to Pine Grove Way (back
entrance to school); drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted *** Traffic may also use
Valley Pines to Berry Creek to Fithian to Van Winkle to Inwood. *****
 Pick up Sutter Middle School students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to American River Canyon, to
Greenback to cross at Lake Natoma Crossing; drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted
 Pick up Folsom High School students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to American River Canyon, to
Greenback to cross at Lake Natoma Crossing; drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted
 During road closure hours, you may exit the area via Oak Ave Pkwy, but you will not be
allowed to re-enter. You might want to plan to stay home, or leave before 9 a.m. and return
after 4:30 p.m.
Valley Pines/Hannaford Cross/Pinebrook area (west of Folsom-Auburn, north of Oak Ave Pkwy)
 Folsom-Auburn limited to southbound traffic only
 In order to return home from areas south, use either Hazel to Douglas, or Santa Juanita/Barton
to Oak Hill to reach Folsom-Auburn Rd
 Oak Ave Pkwy closed to eastbound traffic at Valley Pines/Foxridge
 Expect additional traffic on Valley Pines and Pine Grove in early afternoon due to parent pick-up
of Sundahl students *** Traffic may also use Valley Pines to Berry Creek to Fithian to Van Winkle
to Inwood. *****
 Pick-up Sutter Middle School students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to American River Canyon, to
Greenback to cross at Lake Natoma Crossing; drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted
 Pick up Folsom High School students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to American River Canyon, to
Greenback to cross at Lake Natoma Crossing; drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted
Oak Avenue/Foxridge area (west of Folsom-Auburn, south of Oak Avenue Pkwy)




Folsom-Auburn limited to southbound traffic only
Oak Ave Pkwy closed to eastbound traffic at Valley Pines/Foxridge
Expect additional traffic on Foxridge and Oak Ave due to traffic detoured from Oak Ave Pkwy
Pick up Carl Sundahl students by using Foxridge to Valley Pines Dr to Pine Grove Way (back
entrance to school); drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted. *** Traffic may also use
Valley Pines to Berry Creek to Fithian to Van Winkle to Inwood. *****
 Pick up Sutter Middle School students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to American River Canyon, to
Greenback to cross at Lake Natoma Crossing; drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted
 Pick up Folsom High School students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to American River Canyon, to

Lake Pointe Apartments
 No access to/from Folsom-Auburn Road via any private driveway, except one Lake Pointe
driveway
 Can exit Lake Pointe apartments via southern driveway, but only to head south on FolsomAuburn Road
 Pick up Carl Sundahl students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to Valley Pines Drive to Pine Grove Way
(back entrance to school); drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted *** Traffic may also
use Valley Pines to Berry Creek to Fithian to Van Winkle to Inwood. *****
 Pick up Sutter Middle School students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to American River Canyon, to
Greenback to cross at Lake Natoma Crossing; drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted
 Pick up Folsom High School students by using Oak Ave Pkwy to American River Canyon, to
Greenback to cross at Lake Natoma Crossing; drop off prior to 9 a.m. should not be impacted
 During road closure hours, traffic in and out of your neighborhood will be restricted and you
should expect delays. You might want to plan to stay home, or leave home before 9 a.m. and
return after 4:30 p.m.
La Colina del Lago
 No access to/from East Natoma St via any street or private driveway for duration of event
 Morning drop-off to Folsom Hills, Folsom Middle, and Vista del Lago High School should not be
impacted; however, you will not be able to leave your neighborhood for afternoon pick-up, so
please find alternate location to wait
 If you will need to exit or enter your neighborhood during road closure hours, please move
your car outside your neighborhood prior to 9 a.m. and then walk to and from your car.
Elvies Lane/Morning Walk/Church of Christ (north of East Natoma St)
 Take fire access road to Folsom Point Rd to exit the neighborhood. Expect delays crossing East
Natoma St.
 You will not be allowed to re-enter your neighborhood during road closure hours. You might
want to plan to stay home, or leave before 9 a.m. and return after 4:30 p.m.
The Knolls
 No access to/from Green Valley Rd or East Natoma St during road closure hours.
 If you will need to exit or enter your neighborhood during road closure hours, please move
your car outside your neighborhood prior to 9 a.m. and then walk to and from your car.
Briggs Ranch and vicinity (south of East Natoma St, east of Randall Dr)
 East Natoma Street will be closed from Folsom Lake Crossing to Blue Ravine
 Expect some diverted traffic due to East Natoma closure
I apologize in advance to those who will be inconvenienced. I believe the one-day traffic impacts are
worth the opportunity to showcase our community before a world-wide television audience and the
thousands of cycling fans who will spend time and money in our community. I encourage you to take
advantage of this unique opportunity to be a part of this exciting sporting event.
