CREC’s 49th annual FallStaff will bring together more than 2,000 employees, and it will celebrate staff accomplishments, while also looking forward to the upcoming school year. It is an event coordinated and directed internally, and CREC employees participate throughout the show, singing the national anthem, recording voiceovers, and serving as emcees. FallStaff is made possible through the generosity of sponsors, including top sponsor Owens Realty Services. During FallStaff, CREC will announce its teacher of the year, manager of the year, paraprofessional of the year, and distinguished service award winner. Guest speakers include Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra; James Tillman, a former CREC employee and author who was wrongfully accused of a crime and exonerated; and Dennis Parker, director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Racial Justice Program and an influential lawyer in the Sheff vs. O’Neill lawsuit. CREC Ana Grace Academy of the Arts Elementary School students will perform “Love Wins,” a touching tribute to Newtown victim Ana Grace Marquez-Greene, and a jazz group comprised of CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts staff members will also perform. This year’s FallStaff theme is “CREC Cares,” which acknowledges the work that CREC does to help children and families in Hartford and beyond. CREC is preparing to celebrate 50 years of providing the best tools and support for children and their families, and it is launching its CREC Cares Fund at the August 28 event. The CREC Cares Fund is an employee-directed giving program that supports the needs of CREC community members who have experienced a catastrophic incident that has caused serious economic hardship. CREC community members include students, families, teachers, and staff. Registration and breakfast for FallStaff will begin at 7 a.m. The formal show is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. Members of the media are welcome to attend. ### Capitol Region Education Council www.crec.org
