LIANZA Ikaroa Regional Committee

5:30pm Thursday 6th June 2013
Present: Amanda Curnow, Heather Manning, Anne Odogwu, Juanita Nieuwoudt, Wendy Macaskill.
Apologies: Kim Salamonson, Danae Etches, Robyn Wilson, Maureen Roache, Katherine Chisholm.
Agenda review – Hydestor award.
Approve previous committee meeting minutes - Amanda moved, Anne seconded. Carried.
Matters arising, previous minutes, not noted below :
Digital Humanities – Amanda still to write up.
Transfer of TIG funds – Anna said they will leave it as a separate account, but we administer. Any
costs they occur for events come to us to pass for payment.
What financial records we need to keep – for seven years. When Anne finishes as treasurer she will
weed out to that time.
Amanda will do a blog post on library assistants’ day.
Approval given for Furious five on Friday for 28th June.
Treasurer’s Report: Anne presented her report. Payment received from Massey for library assts
day. All now received. Bank statement from May not yet received. Closing balance to date
$2909.23. Still to receive the account for transport – Juanita to let Amanda know asap so that these
can be approved by email. Amanda will check with Danae for any expenses from Taranaki
Presidents visit. Anne moved, Juanita seconded. Carried.
Councillor’s Report: Wendy presented her report. There has not been a meeting since our last
committee meeting. Visit to South Taranaki went well. Wendy has worked with Anand on proposal
for student membership. Possibility of a library display workshop in PNth. Joanne as new Executive
is bringing in new ways of working. Wendy has been working on selection of electronic books for
LIANZA members. Two day meeting coming up.
Round the Regions Report (Danae and Maureen/Kim) none.
Local News: NDF Barcamp in Palmy – Update – Amanda confirmed for 3rd July. Clare Stent is guest
speaker. Email publicity sent out to be circulated. Restructuring at PP completed.
Presidential Visit - Taranaki: 14th May 2013 –expenses (shared with Pub-SIG)
Events planning and updates
a) LA Day – 9th May expenses to approve: Transport- Juanita to find receipts and let Amanda know.
b) Journal Club – now back to 11am. Amanda will send out an update to Ikaroa advertising this.
Danae reported that they have a group starting late June.
c) Weekend Hui – volunteers for subgroup, date, venue, theme. Juanita and Robyn and Wendy have
volunteered for subgroup. Anne will manage invoices. Amanda has drafted a programme to start
from. Feedback from LA day – more time for networking. Consider travelling time for later start.
Propose start the day with lunch at noon. Followed by keynote speaker, workshops, Drinks and
nibble at 5, then AGM at 5.30. Heather Lamond to speak 6.15 or so, then dinner 7pm.
Theme : suggested “books and more”. Want something catchy. Learning and community. Digital
issues. “Books and more : Libraries, learning and community”.
Subgroup to try to meet – Monday or Tuesday over the next couple of weeks – Amanda will try
dates on Robyn and confirm. 5.30pm in town?
Venue : decided on Massey as the best option. Amanda will check what is available and confirm.
d) AGM : Heather Lamond to speak. 31st August.
e)Suggestions for 2013 Christmas function?? – discuss next time.
Other events
a) Furious Five on Friday – purely social, 28th June @ Bubbles, on Broadway, PN. Amanda has started
inviting people. Bubbles are happy to have us. They are ok to be invoiced. Gluten free food etc
available. Amanda moved that we get a gift voucher (eg gardening, or beauty treatment) for
Heather up to $50. Anne seconded. Carried. Amanda to circulate to get approval from others
b) Online group for CPD (Skype) Amanda will ask for expressions of interest from members, or get
indication of need from weekend hui.
Newsy items or library “good news” stories?? Anne is preparing a write-up on her library job.
Wendy has advertised for a 3 month fixed term position at National Library.
Hydestor award : closing for 29th June – this is too soon, so will need to be moved out. Amanda to
advertise applications are open. Will discuss and approve applicants by email.
Thinking we might not also send someone to conference this year, but spend money on local events.
