Dear [
]
I am writing on behalf of the [name of your] Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) to
invite you to attend a meeting scheduled for [date].
A Community Drug Action Team is a group of people working together to take action on
drug related concerns in their community. Teams usually include community members,
local residents, government agency representatives, local government and local non
government organisations. The CDAT program is supported by the NSW Health,
Community Drug Strategies and is an initiative arising from the NSW Drug Summit.
The role of a CDAT is to:




identify drug and alcohol related problems in their local community
identify gaps or potential overlaps in local services which work on drug and
alcohol related issues
work with organisations and other community members to meet community
needs
develop a local Drug Action Plan describing how to take action on local drug
and alcohol related issues.
Drug and alcohol issues are diverse and affect a significant cross section of the
community. The focus of CDAT is to enhance the relationships between existing service
providers dealing with drug and alcohol issues and assist in identifying areas of need and
in developing collaborative strategies that might assist in addressing these needs. Many
CDATs focus on prevention, education and information projects that focus on young
people.
We would like to involve appropriate and relevant community representatives to ensure
its success. It is important that we engage the following services who directly or
indirectly deal with drug and alcohol related issues within the community, including:
Police, education, local council, local area health service drug and alcohol staff,
aboriginal health, juvenile justice, department of corrective services, youth
services, DOCS, division of general practitioners, department of Housing and
other relevant non government agencies.
It would be fantastic if you could attend the meeting and offer your support. If you are
unable to attend, could you please make arrangements for someone from your
organisation to attend on your behalf?
If you are unable to attend the next scheduled meeting but would be interested in
attending subsequent meetings, could you please let us know?
If you are unable to attend meetings but would like to be kept informed of the group’s
activities, we can organise for you to be sent copies of minutes, so please let us know
your email contact details.
Hope to see you there.
Regards
