Middle School Math and Science
March 17th – 21st
6th Grade Math and Earth Science
Monday
(Math) We reviewed our quiz from last week. Students will receive their
quiz to take home on Thursday due to absent students yet to take it. We started
section 5.3 “Writing and Solving Equations.” Good news, the students seemed like
they were really nailing the lesson. I ramped it up a bit and we worked with
proportions that contained two different variables.
(Science) No Science today
Tuesday
(Math) We completed section 5.4 “Solving Proportions Using Cross
Products.” This lesson was a breeze for the class due to yesterday’s lesson being
much more in depth. Students solved Proportion by converting them to equations
and then solving for missing variable.
(Science) We started the section “Drifting Continents.” We watched a video
with great visuals for explaining Plate Tectonic Theory. We stopped the video at
certain points and discussed concepts using the smart board. This was a great way
to front load the section they were going to cover for homework. Science homework
was assigned.
Wednesday
(Math) 5.5 “Scale Drawings and Models.” Students will learn how to draw to
scale and what a scale model is. Homework will be assigned.
(Science) Finish the National Geographic video from Tuesday.
Thursday
(Math) We will begin to review for our Math Quiz on Friday and our chapter
exam next week.
(Science) We will start activity that tracks the movement of the tectonic
plates from Pangaea to present day.
Friday
(Math) Weekly Math Quiz (5.3-5.5)
(Science) Finish up activity from Thursday.
7th Grade Pre-Algebra and Life Science
Monday
(Math) We started section 6.4 “Slope.” Students learned how to calculate
the slope and graph linear equations using Point Slope Formula on the coordinate
plane. Homework was assigned
(Science) No Science
Tuesday
(Math) 6.5 “Slope-Intercept Form.” Students learned how to apply the
lesson from Monday, (Slope) to the Slope-Intercept Formula to graph much quicker
on the coordinate plane. Students can now look at a graph and write the equation to
describe the graph. Homework was assigned.
(Science) We reviewed our Cell Diagrams and began to prepare for our
Science quiz. ****Our Science quiz has now been moved from Wednesday to
Thursday, because I think we need another day to prepare.
Wednesday
(Math) 6.6 “Direct Variation.” We will learn yet another equation, Direct
Variation (y=kx) and how to determine if a linear equation has direct variation.
Homework will be assigned.
(Science) We will review the cell and its organelles to prepare for quiz on
Thursday.
Thursday
(Math) We will review sections 6.4 – 6.6 to prepare for our quiz on Friday.
(Science) Quiz on the “The Cell and its Organelles.”
Friday
(Math) Math Quiz (6.4-6.6)
(Science) We will begin “Chemical Compounds in Cells.” We will complete a
demonstration that introduces students to chemical compounds. No homework will
be assigned.
8th Grade Algebra I and Physical Science
Monday
Our class is in that awkward time when high school obligations alter our
schedule. Due to more that half the class not being present due to Santa Cruz High
Registration in the hall, we reviewed math concepts from last week in groups.
Tuesday

No Class due to Opera in Schools
Wednesday
(Math) 6.5 “Write Equations of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines.” Students
will learn how to write and identify different types of linear equation on the
coordinate plane with out looking at the graph. They will compare slopes and yintercepts of equations in order to determine if two linear equations are
perpendicular or parallel. Homework will be assigned.
(Science) We will review our quiz on “Atomic Theory.”
Thursday
(Math) We will review for our Math Quiz on Friday and our Chapter Exam
Next week. We will start with sections (6.3-6.5) first to prepare for quiz. Then we
will move to the other sections later.
(Science) We will learn how the Periodic Table is organized. Students will
learn about, atomic mass, groups, periods and chemical symbol. Homework will be
assigned.
Friday
(Math) Math Quiz (6.3-6.5)
(Science) We will finish up the section “Organizing the Elements.” Students
will begin an activity that describes and labels the periodic table.
