Extensive involvement and manual skills improvements with all possible procedures in anesthesia practice and pain management. Course Objectives Understanding of modern anesthetic practice, interactions with patients. Understanding basic physiological principles in modern anesthesia. 1 Students will be involved in pre-operative evaluation; intraoperative management and postoperative recovery of patients. Understanding basic principles in pain management and interactions with patients. Course Goal To Identify and positively reinforce students with an interest in anesthesiology as a career. Instructional Methods Daily clinical assignments in the operating suite. Appropriate preoperative evaluation, text/journal reading, and discussions with supervisors, creation of the anesthesia plan and patient management in the Pain Clinic. Evaluation 1] Daily interaction with anesthesia team members and members of pain clinic (MDs, CRNAs) 2] Written exam. Special Notes We would like to have 1 student per month for the beginning of the rotation. Attendance is mandatory. Friday attendance of the Grand Round at anesthesia Department at D-H MC is mandatory Any time off must be approved by anesthesia staff. 2
