Carried Signing Authority update: Balance in chequing acct: Business Arising: Action Items and Results Bay Credit Union is up to date with paperwork and signing authority for Kathy Toivonen, Jorma Halonen, Jane Chapman, and Pauline Bodnar Oct. 31, 2014 - $8,625.13 Website Quote: Kathleen Traynor will contact Mark Walther re: quote (subsequently, Mark sent a quote – see attached) The board was sent the quote via email. Motion by Jane Chapman to go ahead with revised website. Jorma Halonen seconded. Carried. On-line presence: The board has been unable to access the old facebook page, so a page with a new name will be developed. (Thunder Bay Finnish History if available) 40th kick off film: Saku’s film “To My Son in Spain” set-up of hall at 5 p.m. Coffee, tea water, cookies, and pulla to be served. Advertising includes posters, facebook through Saku, table talkers at the Hoito, and other various public events. Samira Saramo’s event: Samira made posters with acknowledgement in partnering with the TBFCHS. The society sent the poster to the FA for on-line advertising. Event advertised with Saku’s film and posters printed and distributed. Membership cards 16 cards of New design given to Jane to test out Finlandia Assoc. agreement: Kathy Toivonen attended the October, 2014 FA board meeting to begin talks on a plan and agreement between the TBFCHS and the FA regarding a public museum space. The ‘Building Committee’ of the FA will meet with our whole Society to come to a meeting of the minds. From there, the Society will then form their own sub-committee to continue talks. New Business FYI Craft Sale The FA’s annual Craft Sale will be on Dec 6/14. Kathy Toivonen has a table and will sell TBFCHS books as well. A motion was put forth to sell the Project Bay Street and Finnish Settlement books at $10 per copy and the CD that was developed for the business book at $5. Motion: Jane; Seconded: Jorma; Carried Events for Jan & March Coffee House: Thursday, January 29, 2015 Poems and writings: Saturday, March 28, 2015 (Tentative dates. Details to follow) Intermediate Notes (Happenings between October & Nov meets) Books on Consignment at Hoito: Ron Harpelle took 10 Project Bay Street books and 16 Finnish Settlement books to sell on at the Hoito. The books will sell for $12 per copy. $8.00 per book for the TBFCHS and $4.00 per book for the FA. Kathy Toivonen has made a special envelope to record sales for the cashiers of the Hoito. Ontario Historical Society: Jane Chapman and Kathleen Traynor met with Ron Leverty of the OHS on Friday, Nov. 7 for lunch at the Hoito. They exchanged publications, information and confirmation of our status with the Society. Toured the museum. Northern Ontario Bioenergy Tour: Jorma Halonen met with the group on Saturday, November 8 to speak about the history of Finns in Thunder Bay and the history of The Finnish Labour Temple. Toured the museum. Jorma also did an interview with Steve Mantis of Shaw Cable which included the TBFCHS and our upcoming events. Kathy Toivonen read through the 1974 minutes held at the LU Archives to write an intro for the Society’s upcoming 40th celebrations. Kathy sent the info to Jorma for confirmation.
