Coaching Commitment




Promise to Members
Every member will have access to a weekly coaching session throughout the season.
All coaching will take place at Armstrong Road Astroturf.
All (non-specialist) club coaching sessions will be led by UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) qualified coaches.
All those wishing to coach will have access to gain relevant experience and where possible support in taking a
coaching qualification.
Commitment for the 2014/15 season
a) 1st XI Coaching
Both 1st XI's will have access to their own coached team training session throughout the season. Men's will
be Tuesdays 8-10pm and women's will be Wednesdays 8-9:30pm. Each will also have their own specific preseason programme.
Both sessions will be led by a minimum of a UKCC level 2 qualified coach (including coaches currently going
through the Level 2 qualification process) with the desire to improve and develop their coaching. Coaches will
also accompany the team to all matches.
b) 2nd XI Coaching
Both 2nd XI's will have access to their own team coach who will be a minimum of UKCC level 1 qualified
(preferably with the desire to improve and develop their coaching) and will accompany the team to matches
on a Saturday.
Midweek coaching may be delivered though existing club sessions to ensure appropriate numbers.
c) Club Coaching for Adult hockey
Men's club coaching runs on Monday evenings between 7:30-9pm throughout the season. This is aimed at
the players outside the top two teams.
Women's club coaching runs on a Wednesday evening between 7-8:30pm throughout the season. This is
aimed at the players outside the first team.
Both sessions will be led by a minimum of a UKCC level 1 qualified coach though may be supported by
unqualified helpers. Usually these will be those wanting to gain coaching experience.
d) Fitness
While some coaches may dedicate some existing session time to fitness on the whole fitness to play at an
appropriate level is an individual responsibility.
e) Club Coaching for Juniors (up to 18)
Most junior club coaching takes places on a Sunday morning between 9:15am and 12pm. This is aimed at all
those club members who are under 18 on the 1st September.
U8/10s and U12s (boys and girls) will run between 9:15-10:30am; U14s & U16/18s girls and U14 boys will run
between 10:30am and 12pm. U16/18s boys will run on Thursday evenings 7-8:30pm.
Each section will be split where most appropriate due to numbers, gender and ability and will be led by a
minimum of a UKCC level 1 qualified coach and may be supported by un-qualified helpers. Usually these will
be players/parents wishing to gain coaching experience.
Junior coaching will be overseen by the Head Junior Coach who will be a minimum of UKCC Level 2 qualified.
Occasionally training sessions may be cancelled, reduced or changed due to matches (junior, adult cup or
rearranged adult league) but every effort will be made to minimise disruption.
f) Goalkeeper Coaching (Specialist)
All Goalkeepers will additionally be able to access goalkeeper specific coaching which will take place on an ad
hoc basis led by a senior Goalkeeper or qualified coach with specialist goalkeeper experience.
Due to the specialist nature of these sessions attendance may be on a rotational basis.
g) Beginners Coaching
In2Hockey and Back to Hockey Coaching Sessions aimed at those new to hockey or getting back into hockey
after a long absence will run from the start of May until Christmas each year. These will be Tuesdays 7-8pm
and will be led by a UKCC Level 1 coach.
These sessions will also be available to juniors not playing adult hockey as an additional coached session.
Those playing adult hockey will have access to their respective adult club sessions.
h) Summer Hockey
The club also runs non-coached, fun, social, mixed summer hockey games for anyone playing adult hockey.
These run Tuesdays 8-9:30pm from May until mid-August.
i) Coach Development
The club is committed to producing and developing its own coaches and will support any member wishing to
become a coach or develop their existing coaching level. There is a budget to fund those wishing to take
England Hockey coaching courses but the Management Group must first agree each proposal. Such
individuals are expected to apply their coaching skills to the good of other club members.
j) Coaching needs
Where appropriate and/or necessary the club will support existing coaches attending relevant courses such
as first aid.
k) CRB
All club coaches including any unqualified helpers in the junior section must subject themselves to a DBS
(formerly CRB) check.
l) Insurance
The MHC coaching activities of all registered club coaches (see k) are covered by the Club's Insurance.
m) Coaches Audit
The Club's Administration Manager maintains an up-to-date register of Club Coaches that provides proof of
coaching levels, CRB checks and other relevant qualifications e.g. first aid.
The Club's Hockey Manager (Coaching) maintains an up-to-date register of Club-owned coaching equipment.





Future Aims
To develop a home grown level 3 coach.
To improve the experience and level of all club coaches.
To increase the number of qualified coaches supporting the junior section.
To increase the number of qualified club coaches involved in the Single System.
To establish a performance pathway for playing members wishing to develop and improve.
