We are who we are….
The way we look is influenced by a number of different factors. Think of the characteristics that can be influenced by
genetics or the environment
Genetics
Describe what a gene is?
Draw a diagram to show where genes are located.
Environment
Describe what DNA is? Draw a diagram to help you explain:

Punnett Squares
These are used to look at the probability of the offspring of two parents having a specific characteristic based on the
parents Genotype.
1. In each case label:


If the mum/dad is homozygous (BB, bb) or
heterozygous (Bb)
If homozygous, are they homozygous
dominant or homozygous recessive?
2. Complete the punnet square.
3. What is the probability of the parents having
a child with blue eyes?
Questions
1. Draw a punnet square to show the probability of a heterozygous mother and a homozygous dominant father
having a child with blond hair. Use B for brown hair (dominant over blond) a b for blond hair (recessive). Write the
probability of a brown haired child and probability of a blond haired child.
2.
If a heterozygous man with dimples fathers a child with a woman with no dimples what is the probability of a child
with dimples? Use the following: Dimples (D) and no-dimples (d).
3. Exam question: What determines the colour of your eyes? Key words to include: inheritance, chromosomes, genes,
alleles, dominant, recessive (4 marks).
Selective Breeding
1. Use images to show 2 examples of selective breeding and how it is used.
2. Describe some disadvantages of selective breeding.
Mitosis & Meiosis
Find an image of both types of cell division.
1. Explain what each type is used for
2. Explain how they are different to each other
