Originated: 8/15/11 Modified: 8/24/11 THE FURMAN LINK Standing Committee FURMAN FAMILY CONCERNS Responsibilities and Duties RESPONSIBILITIES: Collects information about events in the lives of individuals in the Furman Community and sends out messages of comfort, congratulations or concern on behalf of The Furman Link Summary of Duties: 1. To serve for one term beginning on June 1 and ending on May 31 of the following academic school year 2. To serve as a member of the Executive Committee, to attend Executive Committee meetings and to participate in program planning 3. To submit to the Newsletter Publisher pertinent information for inclusion in the newsletters 4. To assist in preparing newsletters for mailing by folding them, putting tabs on them and sorting them according to zip codes 5. To help plan the Casual Coffee 6. To participate in providing refreshments for the Casual Coffee 7. To develop a relationship with one in the Chaplain’s office and call frequently (several times per week) to solicit information about illnesses, deaths, births, and other types of events in the lives of individuals in the Furman Community 8. To send out on behalf of the Furman Link messages of comfort, congratulations or concern to those in the Furman Community who are experiencing unusual events such as births, deaths, illness, or trauma 9. To encourage and support member participation in the events listed in bold italic print in the Duties by Month section DUTIES BY MONTH: May 1. Assume duties of the office June - August 1. Participate in an Executive Board meeting for the purpose of planning the year’s activities. September 1. Participate in an Executive Board meeting for the purpose of preparing the newsletter for distribution (to all women on campus) and/or for planning the Casual Coffee 2. Assist with providing refreshments for the Casual Coffee 3. Collect information about events in the lives of individuals in the Furman Community and send out messages of comfort, caring or congratulations on behalf of the Furman Link 4. Send out a second note or make a second call to an individual or a family experiencing extended difficulties 5. Request funds from the Treasurer to purchases materials such as cards and stamps for use during the year if needed 6. Annual Event: Casual Coffee October-November 1. Collect information about events in the lives of individuals in the Furman Community and send out messages of comfort, caring or congratulations on behalf of the Furman Link 2. Probable Fall Educational Event: Offering varies December 1. Collect information about events in the lives of individuals in the Furman Community and send out messages of comfort, caring or congratulations on behalf of the Furman Link 2. Annual Event: Holiday Dinner January - February 1. Collect information about events in the lives of individuals in the Furman Community and send out messages of comfort, caring or congratulations on behalf of the Furman Link March/April 1. Assist the President and Nominating Committee in identifying individuals who would like to assume leadership roles 2. Collect information about events in the lives of individuals in the Furman Community and send out messages of comfort, caring or congratulations on behalf of the Furman Link 3. Annual Event: Children’s Egg Hunt (Weekend before Easter) 4. Annual Event: Spring Luncheon 5. Participate an Executive Committee for the purpose of assessing the year’s activities and electing officers for following year May 1. Collect information about events in the lives of individuals in the Furman Community and send out messages of comfort, caring or congratulations on behalf of the Furman Link 2. Submit to the treasurer receipts for expenditures accrued during the year with a request for reimbursement 3.
