While at Queens’ College, he completed his doctorate in Laboratory Astrophysics at Cambridge University in 1982. Astronaut Foale has participated as a crew member on six space missions, including an 8-day mission to repair and upgrade the Hubble Space Telescope. He is currently an active NASA astronaut, supporting Soyuz and ISS operations, and ISS EVA and space suit developments. Probably nowhere else on Earth can such a rich assortment be visited in a single day; every few kilometers down the road is another new and instructive geologic environment. This field trip is designed for teachers at any level, and all other generalist geologists. The stops provide classic demonstrations or examples of: the laws and principles of stratigraphy, granite and carbonate rocks, and types of unconformity and cross-cutting relationships. The field trip begins and ends in Austin, and the fee includes box lunch and barbeque dinner at County Line on the Hill.
