BIOGRAPHY MECCORE STRING QUARTET Established in 2007, Meccore String Quartet are considered as one of the most interesting quartets of their generation. In April 2012 they won the 2nd prize at the Wigmore Hall String Quartet Competition in London. The ensemble was also awarded three additional prizes for the best performances of works by J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart and B. Dean. In 2011 they were awarded the Finalist Award and the Special Award at the 9th International String Quartet Competition Premio Paolo Borciani in Reggio Emilia. In 2010 the Quartet received the 1st prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Weiden (2nd and 3rd prizes were not awarded), and in 2009 they won the 1st prize at the Max Reger International Chamber Music Competition in Sondershausen. The Quartet have given performances on major European music festivals, such as Rheingau, Mecklemburg Vorpommern, L. van Beethoven Spring Festival, Budapest Spring, Heidelberg Frühling, Kissinger Sommer, Festival Radio France Montpellier, Bregenzer Festspiele and appeared in many prestigious concert halls, among others Beethovenhaus in Bonn, National Philharmony in Warsaw, Wigmore Hall in London, Musikverein in Vienna. In 2014 the ensemble had the honor to perform as the first Polish String Quartet during the ceremony on Holocaust Remembrance Day in German Bundestag. In 2012 Meccore String Quartet were awarded the first prize and an annual scholarship by the Irene SteelsWilsing Stiftung, which resulted in the Ensemble´s debut CD released in 2013 featuring String Quartets of W. A. Mozart and L. van Beethoven. Meccore String Quartet were at first tutored by members of the Camerata Quartet, then, since 2009, they have been studying with the Artemis Quartett at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Since the year 2012 they have been able to study at Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel thanks to a full scholarship awarded by this prestigious institution. Meccore String Quartet have further developed their skills during master classes (Reggio Emilia String Quartet Festival, Beethoven Haus Masterclass in Bonn, Jeunesses Musicales in Weikersheim, among others) held by most prominent artists, such as Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet), Cuarteto Casals, Vogler Quartett, Kuss Quartett, Barthold Kuijken, Heime Müller, Antonello Farulli, Peter Cropper (Lindsay String Quartet). An important event in the artistic life of the Quartet was their participation in the course on interpretation of Ludwig van Beethoven's music held by Alfred Brendel. The Quartet, as well as each of the members individually, recieved the scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as well as from the programme "Young Poland". Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Quartet have a possibility to fulfil their mission, which is to popularise chamber music in places with limited access to culture, such as hospitals for young people and children. In the year 2011 Meccore String Quartet received nomination for the prestigious "Paszporty Polityki" award (Polityka's Passports) in the category of Classical Music. Musicians have accomplished numerous recordings for the Polish Radio PR2, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Rai3, Radio Stephansdom, SWR3 oraz NDR Kultur. Their performance of F. Schubert's "Death and the Maiden" for Polish TV Kultura was nominated to the "Gwarancje Kultury 2011", a competition featuring the best accomplishments on the Polish cultural scene. Since 2010 Meccore String Quartet have been hosting and organising in PoznaĆ the International Chamber Music Festival "Q'arto Mondi", featuring top quartets from all over the world. November 2014
