parknotes Lake Eildon National Park Hunting of Sambar Deer by Stalking Deer Hunting is permitted in Lake Eildon National Park by persons who hold a current Game Licence for deer and a current Firearms Licence. Firearms must comply with the following requirements : The following conditions and restrictions apply : 1. A centre fire rifle having a calibre of no less than 6.85 mm (0.270”) with a projectile no lighter than 8.45 g (130 grains) and a minimum cartridge case length of 51 mm (2”). 1. Hunting and shooting in Lake Eildon National Park is limited to Sambar Deer, in the designated area as indicated by shading on the map (see overleaf). 2. Muzzle-loading rifle - minimum legal calibre 11.45 mm (.45”). Minimum projectile weight 8.62 g (133 grains), as per hunting regulations. 2. Firearms must be kept unloaded and may not be discharged within 100 metres of any camping site or picnic area in the park. 3. A long bow having a pull weight of no less than 22.5 kg with a minimum draw of 70 cm with a broad-head arrow having a minimum of two sharpened cutting blades, or 3. Carrying and use of specified firearms is limited to persons classified above for the purpose of hunting Sambar Deer during the period from the first Saturday after Easter until 30 November inclusive, and in accordance with the Wildlife (Game) Regulations, 1976, No 2. 4. A cross bow having a pull weight of no less than 36.5 kg with a broad-head arrow having a minimum of two sharpened cutting blades. 4. The carrying or use of a spotlight for deer hunting is not permitted. 5. Dogs are not allowed. NOTE : The carrying of an unloaded firearm is also authorised in the O’Toole’s Flat Camping area, abutting the hunting zone. This camping area is adjacent to the Gap Track, approximately 800 m from the Eildon-Jamieson Road. 6. The current Firearms Licence and Game Licence must be carried, and produced on request.
