Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority Job Description Post: Freshwater East Slipway Warden Grade: Scale 1 - £6.47 per hour Base Freshwater East. The attendant’s cabin will be able to be used during periods of inclement weather. Responsible to: South Area Ranger This is a temporary/seasonal job. Duties commence on 15th July and end on 3rd September. You will work flexibly over 5 days a week to include all weekends and bank holidays. . Overall Purpose: 1. Monitor use of the slipway and beach and ensure that Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA) Byelaws and Codes of Conduct are followed with regard to boat launching and parking of vehicles at Freshwater East Beach. 2. Monitoring and reporting on all the activities that take place on the Beach. Times may be adjusted according to local circumstances and subject to discussion with the South Area Ranger. 3. Helping visitors enjoy their visit to Freshwater East within the guidelines of the relevant byelaws and Codes of Conduct. Provide information to beach and slipway users and the general public. 4. Occasional monitoring of car parks, litter picking and maintenance of the beach, car parks and surrounding area. 5. A flexible attitude towards the hours of work will be expected when necessary in view of the seasonal and daily pressures of visitor use. Liaison with: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. PCC Beach Officers PCC Litter Warden Other Agencies (Tractor Launch service, Boat Club, Police etc) 1 Main tasks of work: During the ‘high season’ the two site wardens will cover a 7 day a week rota and will undertake the following duties. 1. Supervise use of the slipway and ensure that users are aware of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Code of Conduct for launching, and relevant byelaws. 2. Ensure that boats are launched and retrieved responsibly. 3. Ensure all vehicles launching boats complete a registration card or are entered on a daily log. Record activities that take place on the beach including numbers and types of boats launched, weather conditions, types of beach or water sports taking place, jet skis etc. 4. Supervise and authorise parking on the beach for those launching boats and report people who refuse to follow the byelaws or code of conduct by recording vehicle details and registration numbers. 5. Check the site on a daily basis, keeping all areas of the site free of litter. Work with the PCC litter wardens. 6. Provide information and advice to the general public about the use of the slipway and beach, Freshwater East and the surrounding area, and about the National Park Authority’s role in the area. 7. To promptly report any problems concerning the site to the South Area Ranger and to monitor generally the condition and use of the site. 8. Attend courses and training if required. 9. To undertake such other work as might be required from time-to-time in connection with the wider duties and responsibilities of the National Park Authority. Person profile: You will need to be able to show that you have these skills/qualities: Able to relate to the public in a friendly and courteous manner. Able to communicate well, to explain ‘rules and regulations’ and gain co-operation from users; you will need to be able to demonstrate good communication skills. Able to work well within the team Reliable, trustworthy, able to work without supervision and organise own work schedule. Flexible approach to work and prepared to work outside in all weathers. Interest in the National Park and local knowledge of Freshwater East and South Pembrokeshire area. Willing and able to work weekends and Public Holidays. Able to undertake the physical aspects of the job. Able to record daily events accurately and to organise information.
