Information Student accommodation Bergerweg Alkmaar Introduction This short brochure will give you information about the Student Accommodation of Inholland University Alkmaar, at the Bergerweg. This is an accommodation for exchange students who will study at Inholland University for one or two semesters. Students will find information about the accommodation and its facilities in this short brochure. Next to this, information about payment, checking in and checking out is included. Accommodation From August 2012 the accommodation used by Inholland University will be “Bergerweg”. In the past this building has been used as a school. From August 2012 it is used by Inholland University to accommodate foreign students. Together with housing corporation Woonwaard this accommodation is realised. The accommodation is situated near the centre of Alkmaar (couple of minutes by bike), the train station (2 minute walk) and Inholland University (5-10 minutes by bike). Inholland University rents 11 rooms at this accommodation. All rooms are rented out as single rooms, so every student has his own room with bath room. The rooms are not identical, they have different sizes, but all the rooms will have the same facilities. In addition to student residences, there is also a nursery located in the accommodation and there is scope for social-cultural companies/organisations. The outdoor space of the premises will be transformed into a space where everyone can come together. For instance a field will created where students can play football or have a picnic. Individual Rooms and Common living room/ common kitchen The accommodation is divided in three “living groups”, each with a common living room/kitchen area. You share this with the other students of your living group. This will be other exchange students and also some regular Dutch students. A living group will consist of max. 10 students in total. The individual room is divided in two spaces, there’s a bathroom and a room to sleep and study in. Every room has also a small kitchenette. Every room has a refrigerator where the student can keep his own products. Every bathroom has a shower, a washing sink and a toilet. Upon arrival the student will receive a brand-new kitchen package. This includes plates, cutlery, pans and cups. Besides the kitchen package bed-clothes will be provided. There is a vacuum cleaner available on every living group. There is a common washroom. Where students can wash and dry their clothes. In every room at the accommodation it is possible to use the wireless Internet. Every academic year has two semesters: - 1st semester: Fall semester - 2nd semester: Spring semester September – end of January February – half of July The Servicedesk of Inholland University will provide you the exact dates of the start of the semesters. Rent will increase annually by the minimum of the percentage in accordance with national, obligatory rent increases in the Netherlands. The price for the single room is around € 2.600,- for one semester. This is the maximum. This price is including service costs (electricity, gas, water) using WiFi internet and the inventory that’s present in the rooms. You have to pay the full amount of the rent 2 months before you are going to the University. We will also let you know what the exact costs of renting will be. Check in procedure After you have applied for accommodation you will receive a message by e-mail. You will be informed whether a definite reservation has been made for you or whether you have been put on the waiting list. The Servicedesk will inform you as soon as possible about which room is assigned to you. The check in date is often fixed by the course management of the course you are going to follow. Subletting It is forbidden to sublet your apartment. Students found subletting will have their tenancy contract terminated at once. It is also not allowed to live in a single room with more than one person. Violations of such rules will lead to immediate termination of the tenancy contract. Moving It will not be possible to move to a different room/location during the semester. If you think you have good reasons to move, you should write to the Servicedesk; the accommodation officer will check whether it is possible. Within a week you will be informed whether or not a move is possible. If you do move to another room, you will have to sign a new contract and your old room will be inspected. Extending your tenancy contract If you wish to stay longer than your contract states, you should approach the Servicedesk employee as soon as possible or at least a month before the contract expiry date. Extension can only be granted to students with no rent arrears and only if the room is not reserved for somebody else. If you are staying an extra semester or if you are going on placement in the Netherlands your tenancy contract will not be automatically extended. Please note that the term of notice will be 1 month in all circumstances. Short brochure student accommodation ‘Bergerweg” Page 5 of 6 Check out procedure You have to leave the accommodation on the day that your contract ends. If you wish to leave before the expiry date of your contract you must inform the Servicedesk. It will not be possible to get a refund of the rent. If you think Inholland University has to make an exception for you, you have to write a letter to the Servicedesk. The only exceptions are made in case of serious personal circumstances. Normally within a week you will receive an answer. At the day of your departure your room will be inspected and you have to hand in your key. When your room is inspected it should be clean and in the state you found it at the beginning of the contract period. This means: All furniture is dusted and clean The floor has been vacuum cleaned, dusted and wiped clean The shower, toilet and wash basin are clean Cupboards are empty All items of the inventory list are present and in good condition All personal belongings are removed All extra furniture is removed Stickers, posters, tape, etc. are removed from the wall without leaving stains or (drill) holes The refrigerator is empty and clean Kitchenette is clean After the inspection you have to hand in your key to the housing company. Departure without prior termination If you leave without giving a proper notice, Inholland University reserves the right to refuse you accommodation at a later date. All costs incurred by Inholland University (like cleaning costs) will be for your expense. Debts All students with rent or other debts to Inholland University will not be awarded any European Credit for modules studied until all debts have been settled.
