Projects can easily be registered online by visiting www.newtoncommunitypride.org/NewtonSERVES-project.php. Projects can be in the morning, afternoon or all-day on Sunday, April 28th during the Day of Service, or they can be set up individually on an alternate date during the City of Newton’s Volunteer Week, April 28th-May 4th. In addition to gaining access to volunteers to tackle specific tasks, project sites may be eligible to receive additional resources such as mulch and garbage and yard waste bags. Project sites also benefit from raised awareness within the community, and all participants receive NewtonSERVES Tshirts and refreshments in honor of their volunteer service. Ruth Barnett, President of Newton Community Pride said, “NewtonSERVES is one of the city’s most important events because it embraces all 13 villages, knitting us into one community. It is events like this one that make people want to move to Newton, to raise their children here. It creates an absolutely wonderful sense of neighborhood belonging that brings together over 1,000 volunteers of all ages to complete more than 60 community projects.” Past projects include cleaning up parks, planting gardens, building and painting school bookshelves, spring cleaning at non-profit organizations, helping senior citizens, and other community enhancement projects. New project leaders are encouraged to register projects along with experienced leaders and recurring projects. NewtonSERVES is sponsored by Newton Community Pride and its platinum sponsor Cambridge Savings Bank, along with the Mayor's Office for Cultural Affairs and the Newton Parks and Recreation Department.
