PETITION TO THE SUNSHINE COAST COUNCIL
We, the undersigned, respectfully ask that the Sunshine Coast Council works towards resolving the parking, traffic
and safety issues that are endangering and challenging parents and students at Chancellor Primary Campus located
in and around the area of Scholars Drive, Sippy Downs. We also call on the Sunshine Coast Council to work
alongside the State Government and the University of the Sunshine Coast to partner on resolving such issues.
ISSUES
1. Lack of parking spaces due to University students parking on Scholars Drive.
2. Traffic congestion due to no alternative entry/exit points.
3. Un-manned crossing/walkway at the end of Scholars Drive loop near the walkway to Columbia Street.
SUGGESTIONS
1. (a) Timed parking both sides of Scholars Drive during school drop off and pick up hours with regular parking patrols.
(b) The issuing of parking permits to residents in the university accommodation complex opposite the primary school on Scholars
Drive.
2. (a) Provide access for school traffic to exit using the bus link at the end of Scholars Drive via the University campus or by
constructing a secondary access road to Columbia Street to be used at specified times to ease traffic congestion.
(b) Relocate the supervised crossing to be directly in front of the main school entrance to reduce the bottle neck effect at the
exit of Scholars Drive.
3. (a) Put up a form of barricade to redirect pedestrian traffic to use the footpath around the loop at the end of Scholars Drive
when accessing Columbia Street.
(b) Provide a traffic control supervisor to regulate and monitor the flow of pedestrians and vehicles within the precinct.
