CHITTENANGO BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING Bridgeport Elementary School October 1, 2013 6:30 P.M. MINUTES Dan Gibbons called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. This meeting was held in the Board of Education Conference Room. Public Comments The Chittenango Central School District Board of Education welcomes and encourages public input and comments. Board meetings are open meetings held in public, but are not public meetings in the sense of traditional town meetings. The Board accepts and understands its obligation to represent and to listen to the community. The time for public comments is offered at the beginning of every Board meeting. Members of the public are also encouraged to contact Board members before or after Board meetings to express concerns. The Board reserves the right to encourage or exclude comment at any other time. Public comments, at Board meetings, are welcomed within a controlled forum format, as facilitated by the Board President, which does not permit open discussion of confidential issues, such as, but not limited to, student discipline and personnel performance. Issues of a confidential nature would be forwarded to the Superintendent for further review and response. There were no public comments at this time. III. Consent Agenda Upon motion made by Wehner, seconded by Zimmer the following resolution was offered: A. Minutes 1. Approve the Minutes of the Regular Board of Education meeting from September 17, 2013. VOTE: IV. AYES – 9 NAYS – 0 Educational Presentation/Topics A. Chittenango Central School District Para-Professionals: Mary Farber/Bridgeport Staff – Information/Discussion Mary Farber and members of her staff presented on the “life in the day of a teacher’s aide”. The role and responsibility of a teacher’s aide is to provide support for classroom teachers, focused on assisting students with disabilities. B. Enrollment Numbers: Mike Eiffe – Information/Discussion Mike Eiffe provided information regarding student enrollment. Our overall student enrollment has increased by 23 students. MINUTES V. Old Business A. NYSCOSS Conference: Michael Schiedo – Information/Discussion The NYSCOSS conference this past weekend was outstanding. The Commissioner of Education discussed the hot topics of the year, which are College and Career readiness, APPR, the Common Core learning standards and PARCC testing. Many of the general sessions focused on these topics and broke things down into much greater detail. B. Capital Building Project: Scott Mahardy/Michael Schiedo – Information/Discussion Scott and Mike gave an update on the progress of the Capital Building Project Design/Development stage. VI. New Business A. Acceptance of Audit: Scott Mahardy – Discussion/Action The Audit Committee recommended that the BOE accept the annual external audit report. We received a very positive audit report. Kudos to Scott and his staff in our business office! Motion by Boswell, seconded by Wehner to approve. VOTE: AYES – 9 NAYS – 0 B. Open Houses: Michael Schiedo/Mike Eiffe – Information/Discussion C. Hall of Fame/Homecoming Night: Michael Schiedo – Information/Discussion The Hall of Fame/Homecoming night will be held on Friday, October 11th at halftime of the varsity football game. Our own Board member, Geoff Zimmer, along with eight others, will be inducted into the CCS Hall of Fame on that evening. D. Future Use of Properties: Michael Schiedo/Scott Mahardy – Information/Discussion Scott and Mike began the discussion on the future use of the transportation facility and Lake Street Elementary School, both of which will become vacant in the fall of 2015. E. Quartier be granted a long-term substitute appointment as a Physical Education teacher effective on or about October 26, 2013 through January 31, 2014 at a per diem rate. 3.
