TARGET AUDIENCE
This conference is offered to school nurses, school nurse coordinators, and school health personnel.
Educational offerings enhance school nursing competencies and promote evidence-based practice in the
delivery of health care to all students.
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
Participants will be able to:
● Identify strategies to build and enhance effective partnerships which support students’ health, care
access, and full participation in their education;
● Describe ways to improve the health status of school children with special health needs and
disabilities;
● Identify best practices in the delivery of evidence based school health services;
● Explain the school nurse’s role in promoting health, preventing disease, and avoiding disability as a
means of supporting student achievement;

All participants must preregister. The two-day registration* includes conference materials, Friday lunch, the
Celebration Luncheon on Saturday, refreshment breaks and Contact Hours. Registration options are described
below. Seating for all sessions is on a first come, first served basis, and will be limited to the capacity of the
meeting room.

Accepted forms of payment are VISA, MasterCard and checks. Conference registration must be submitted
with either full credit card payment to VASN online by clicking HERE or a check made payable to VASN and

mailed to Lisa Billock at 512 Herndon Parkway, Suite D, Herndon, VA 20170. The regular registration rates will
be applicable until October 19, 2015. After this date, late registration will incur a $25 fee and will be accepted
only if space is available. All registrations will be confirmed by email. Registration is guaranteed only after
card payment has been approved or when the check has cleared. Returned checks are subject to a $25
returned check fee and registration cancellation. For your security: registrations with credit card information
sent via email will not be processed.
MEALS AND CELEBRATION LUNCHEON
Attendees and their guests who lodge at the Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel will enjoy a
complimentary continental breakfast. Celebrate excellence in school nursing at VASN’s Celebration Luncheon.
All attendees and their guests must make reservations at the time of registration for this fun event from 12:00
– 1:00 on Saturday. A light lunch will be provided on Friday from 12:00 – 1:00.

The Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel is located at 3501 Atlantic Ave, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.

boardwalk. The Virginia Beach hotel offers a relaxing atmosphere; right in the middle of all Virginia Beach has
to offer. Direct beach access, indoor/outdoor pools and upscale dining are just a few of the great hotel
features you can expect when you stay at Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel. Room rates are
$125.26/night single/double occupancy; State government employees may receive the state rate by calling for
additional information (limited number available). Reserve your hotel room before October 15, 2015. To make

HELPFUL HINTS FOR CONFERENCE
For your comfort, business casual attire is recommended for conference sessions. VASN does not have control
over the hotel temperature setting. Some rooms may be cool. Please bring a jacket or sweater for your
comfort. Bring a notebook and pen for note-taking as speakers do not always provide presentation handouts.
As a courtesy to our speakers who have spent a good deal of time preparing the educational sessions, silence
your cell phone or other communication devices during all sessions. If you must take a call, make
arrangements to do so only during breaks and outside of the session. Do not disrupt your session by talking on
the phone. Do so only once you are outside the conference room. If you know that you must leave early, do so
only at the scheduled break or before the session begins. Thank you for your courtesy to our guest presenters
and your colleagues.
DRAWINGS
Don’t miss your opportunity to take home a prize by getting your “Exhibitor Passport” completed and entered
in the prize drawing at the VASN Marketplace by 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. You must be present to win during
the drawings at 4:15 on Saturday. A complimentary registration for the 2016 VASN Fall Conference will be
offered. Proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will support the National Association of School Nurses’ Endowment
Fund which advances school nursing practice by:

Supporting research about school nursing and health of school-age children;

Funding grants that improve school nursing practice and school affiliated delivery of healthcare; and
Providing scholarships for school nurses seeking graduate degrees and/or certification in advanced
nursing practice.
VASN MARKETPLACE
Bid on your favorite basket filled with goodies from various regions in the Commonwealth. The VASN
Marketplace is open between sessions on Friday and Saturday. Proceeds from the Marketplace and its raffle
baskets support ongoing continuing education offerings to Virginia’s school nurses by the VASN, Inc. You must
be present to win the basket drawing at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.
VASN does not sell or ship online merchandise or products.

exhibitors’ products or services. VASN reserves the right to substitute topics and speakers or cancel sessions
as necessary.
CANCELLATIONS AND REFUND POLICY
Cancellation requests received on or prior to Friday, October 16, 2015 will result in a full refund, less a $50
administrative fee. No refunds will be issued after this date. All changes to an existing record, including
cancellations, must be submitted in writing to VASN’s Registration Manager via email
at lbillock@conferencemanagers.com, or via fax at 703-964-1246. Please note that all refunds will be issued in
the same format as payment was received. All cancellations will be processed and refunds distributed within
30 days of the close of the conference. Registrants may substitute another individual from within the same
organization and pay any difference in registration type. VASN’s registration manager Lisa Billock must be
notified of any substitutions by November 2, 2015. Please submit all cancellations and substitutions in writing

CONTACT HOURS
Contact hours are being offered by the Virginia Association of School Nurses, Inc. A maximum of 11.25
contact hours may be earned for the conference, depending on course completion and attendance. To be
eligible for contact hours for all sessions, participants must sign in to the conference at check-in, attend
sessions and complete the online session evaluation for each session attended, and the general evaluation for
the conference. A completed, legible copy of the Contact Hour Worksheet must be turned in at the end of the
conference to let us know you want contact hours. An email link to the online evaluation tool will be sent to
all participants requesting contact hours after the conference is completed. You will have two weeks to
complete the evaluations.

If all of the above requirements are met, a Certificate of Continuing Education will be e-mailed to eligible
participants within 5-6 weeks after the conference. Be sure to include a HOME email address on the Contact
Hour Worksheet. Contact Hours will NOT be available after the conference.
The Virginia Association of School Nurses, Inc. is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by
the Virginia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s
Commission on Accreditation.
PRIVACY POLICY
VASN, Inc. does not collect, track or sell financial information. An attendee list containing conference
registrants’ names and schools or organizations will be password accessible by registrants on the conference
website. Only those registrants who select “Yes, my information may be released” during the registration
process may have their name, organization, work email and work phone number released to registrants,
exhibitors and sponsors. Those registrants who opt out will not be included on the conference contact list and
will not receive a copy of this list.
