LINEA PENINSULAR HURRICANE PLAN 2014
I. OBJECTIVE
To better prepare for the upcoming 2014 Hurricane Season and to heighten
awareness and communications between Linea Peninsular, Customers, and the
Port of Panama City during this time.
II. PREPARATION
During hurricane season, we urge customers to have export paperwork prepared
prior to arrival at the port of Panama City in order to avoid delays in loading
containers onto vessels. When a warning is issued, it is important that your cargo is
ready for loading.
All clearances of northbound cargo arriving from Progreso should be arranged
promptly. (US Customs, USDA, FDA…)
When hurricane conditions are imminent in the Gulf of Mexico, Linea Peninsular
will post on our website (www.lineaships.com) then click on 2014 Hurricane
Season Alert - messages regarding closing/reopening of the port as well as any
necessary schedule changes.
Linea Peninsular also has the option of holding ships at the Port of Progreso, MX
until weather conditions improve in the Gulf of Mexico

US Coast Guard information
The Coast Guard will issue a notice at 72 hours prior to hurricane landfall. At this
time Panama City Port Authority will not accept further southbound cargo, nor will
Linea Peninsular issue bookings for southbound cargo.
We ask all northbound customers with cargo on the dock in Panama City to arrange
pick up of their containers as soon as the vessel arrives and cargo is customs cleared.
If the port is in the projected strike zone, the Port of Panama City will order a ‘STOP
OPERATIONS/VACATE PREMISES’ for all Port Employees and tenants 36
hours prior to hurricane’s expected strike. No one will be allowed to enter the security
gate at that point for any reason.
III.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
Linea Peninsular has arranged with GDZ, our software provider, office space in
their headquarters in Miami, FL if needed for transmissions to US & MX Customs.
We can also operate remotely in the US and in MX via our MX terminal servers in
our Merida and Progreso offices.
Linea Peninsular will make every effort to assist you in your preparations that need
to be made for cargo safety during this hurricane season.
In summary:
Discharging operations will cease 72 hours before expected landfall. This
should allow time for customers to arrange pickup of cargo on the dock
from previous voyages up to 48 hours before the port closes. However, keep
in mind possible heavy traffic conditions at this time heading north from the
Gulf Coast.
Panama City Port Authority will not accept southbound cargo at port less
than 72 hours before expected landfall.
Last vessel to depart Port of Panama City not less than 60 hours before
expected landfall.
