The Worst Mistake in Human History?
Recently you’ve learned about the Neolithic Revolution, which is arguably
the most significant development in human history. Read the attached essay
by Jared Diamond. Diamond argues that the Neolithic Revolution was the
worst mistake in the history of humanity. Your task is to take the
information Diamond presents, information from the lesson in class, as well
as outside information and resources posted on the class website, and write
an essay either agreeing or disagreeing with Diamond’s thesis.
In 2-3 typed pages, write an essay with a thesis and supporting evidence in
which you answer and discuss the questions: Was the development of
agriculture and the domestication of animals a mistake in human history?
Why? Was life better for hunter-gatherers or have the effects of the
Neolithic Revolution positively impacted humanity? Be sure to debate or
agree with specific evidence and statistics cited by Diamond. A good essay
will engage Diamond’s arguments.
