Through December 31 - The Alzheimer's Association and the University
of Virginia Memory and Aging Care Clinic are working together on
FAMILIES, a free, federally grant funded program to provide counseling,
support, and resources to caregivers of persons with dementia. To determine
if you are eligible for this program or to learn more, call 434-982-4004 or
email par4c@virginia.edu. This program is currently available to residents
of Charlottesville, Chatham, Albemarle County, Augusta County,
Buckingham County, Green County, Fluvanna County, Louisa County,
Madison County, Nelson County, Orange County, and Rockingham
County.

- Mental Health Event for Seniors and Caregivers, free,
from 10-3:30 at Peter Paul Development Center
in Richmond.
This one day event includes speakers on a variety of topics, lunch and an
opportunity to learn. Register in event with Senior Center of Greater

November 12 - "Modifying Your Home to Fit Your Changing
Lifestyle." Small changes in your home can make a big difference and they
can enable you to thrive as your living situation changes. Join our expert
panel to find out how simple changes to your home can create an
environment to enable you to age safely in your home. Topics include
energy conservation and weatherization, how to grow older in your home,
home accessibility, and suggestions and ideas on simple, everyday changes
that can be made in your home as you age in place. 9-11 a.m., Lucy Corr

November 12 - "Navigating the Healthcare System." Participants will have
the opportunity to learn and engage with experts in the field of Medicaid,
Medicare and Virginia's Commonwealth Coordinated Care Program. Hear
an overview of key points for each program from our panel of experts, as
well as a question and answer session. Representatives from Medicare,
Medicaid, Anthem, Humana and Virginia Premier will also be available for

November 12 - "When Words Fail: Ministering to People with Dementia".
Westminster Canterbury Richmond, 1600 Westbrook Avenue, Richmond,
VA 23227. This seminar will highlight the physiological, emotional, and
spiritual effects of dementia and some effective communication tools. The
cost is $30, which covers materials and lunch. Space is very limited, so

November 13 - Join Senior Advocate for their Active Aging Expo for
Women Ages 55+ at Governor's Landing in Williamsburg. The Expo is
FREE to attendees and runs from 8:00AM - 12:15PM. There will be
informative exhibitors, inspirational speakers and a chance to win many
fabulous door prizes, including a $500 donation to one non-profit women's

Commerce (HRCCVA) are launching a new networking group called
the Senior Advocate Chamber Round Table. To introduce this new

interested parties on how to work with patients who have sleep disorders,

Volunteer with the Bon Secours St. Mary's HELP
Program (Hospital Elder Life Program).
They
are currently recruiting reliable, caring, mature individuals
to visit older adult patients and provide assistance with
daily visits, orientation, therapeutic activities, and meal
time tray set up. HELP is based upon award winning
clinical trial at Yale University that is designed to prevent
delirium and functional decline in hospitalized older
patients 65 years of age and older. For more
