IAPP Annual CME report
The annual CME of IAPP was organized at hotel Holiday Inn, Goa on 11/7/15. More than 100 delegates
from all over India attended it. It began with the inaugural speech by the secretary; CME Chairperson and
finally declaring the CME open by the President IAPP Dr Dinesh Narayanan.
First talk was delivered by Dr G Prasad Rao and Dr Dinesh Narayanan chaired it and Dr M S Reddy. He
spoke on newer drugs in pipeline in Psychiatry. Psychiatry is the most progressive branch as of now and
that hold true even for the development of newer drugs for the treatment of psychiatric disorders.
It was followed by talk on Pharmacogenetics in Psychiatry, delivered by Dr Smita Despende—what every
Psychiatrist should know and by Dr Siddhartha Roy—Changing outcome. Dr A.K. Mallick and Dr Sarvesh
Chandra chaired it. It was a highly interactive talk and delegates shared their experiences and
apprehensions like cost etc.
An eminent radiologist delivered the third talk from Mumbai. He practices PET Scan and delivered talk on
neuro-imaging of clinical relevance. He demonstrated PET findings correlation with various behavioural
disorders of psychiatric and neuropsychiatric origin. The delegates got to learn about the basics of PET
scan and shared their queries about preventative PET scan. Dr Kersi Romi Chavda and Dr Pai Kakode
chaired it.
Any body who can make people learn about Mild cognitive Impairment id Dr Venu Gopal Jhanwar. Two
eminent Chairpersons Dr Rajeev Gupta and Dr Ashwani Kumar compounded the knowledge. The speaker
made the presentation so simple and interactive that the session was to be winded up due to time
constraints.
Dr E Mohan Das talk is always par excellence in terms of presentations and content. He talked on
Management of Traumatic Brain Injuries. He held his presentations in MCQs Pattern and involves the
delegates completely. Dr Shreekant Joshi and Dr Shashi Rai chaired it.
Dr Shubh Mohan Singh From PGIMER, Chandigarh spoke on the management of Obesity in Psychiatry. He
made us learnt the obesity management techniques to be advocated in mild to severe psychiatric
disorders. He talked about pharmacological and life style medications. He strongly recommended that
psychiatrists following life style modifications themselves are better source of inspiration for the patients.
Dr S S Kale and Dr Punnet Kathuria chaired the session.
The last session of the evening was a debate—Gadgets in Children. Dr Deepa Deepak spoke the ill effects
of gadgets and Dr Avinash Desouja justified the positive use of gadgets. The was chaired by Dr Fabian
Savio Almedia and Dr S L Khanna. The debate was so interesting that almost everybody in thr hall
particited. Ultimately the balanced approach about its use is recommended. The psychiatrists have a great
role to play in this field and research is warranted in this area.
I must inform you with great confidence that all the science talked about was excellent in content
delivered by the experts of their fields and was highly interactive. It serves the ultimate purpose of IAPP in
terms of enriching its members with knowledge.
ABOVE ALL THE CME HAD 100% OTP (on time performance)
It was followed by valedictory and suggestions came as to have it for 2 complete days and non-theme
based sessions was appreciated.
Throughout the event delegates enjoyed sea beach walk, nice weather and mouth watering food.
