Introduction
NOTE: If you have Lessons within your module, you should have an introduction introducing
what the lesson (topic) will be covering. You may also include images if you like; just make
certain that you include the website (resource) where you found the image.

I’m sure this definition isn’t true for any of you…. This module we will discuss definitions and using
definition as a strategy for writing an essay. We will look at connotations (the feelings associated with
certain words) and we will also create a topic proposal for a definition essay. So put your phone away,
turn off the TV, and let’s get started.

“Definition Topic Proposal”
You need to create a topic proposal for your Definition Essay. You will decide on a topic and create a
proposal in this module. This essay will be a research essay, so we will go over a few important
aspects of research in the next couple of modules. Your outline for the Definition Essay will be due in
Module 9, and then the Essay itself will be due in Module 10.
Directions:
1. Click on the Topic Proposal Form to open. (Karen, this form will be in the dropbox titled “Topic Proposal
Form”)
2. Type in the answers and information as indicated.
3. Save your information and include the word you are defining in the title.
4. Click on the link to submit your Topic Proposal. (I’m not sure these directions are clear, but I don’t know
exactly what the students will see to be able to tell them what to click on.)

Using the Literary Analysis Outline you created last module, you will need to write a Literary Analysis
Essay on the story or poem you chose.
Guidelines:
 Needs to follow the basic essay structure discusses in Module 1
 Needs to be in MLA format. This includes font, spacing, etc.
