Dear Selection Committee Members,
RE: Statement of motivation to National Astrophysics and Space Science Programme
(NASSP).
I hereby would like to explain statement of motivation in the framework of the Honours
Degree in Astrophysics and Space Science.
My long-time career aspiration is to be a scientific researcher in field of industrial
enterprise technologies particularly Aerospace. So, I plan first to study Honours of
Astrophysics and Space Science in a well reputed University like University of Cape
Town in South Africa. After completing it, I will continue my study in Master and PhD’s
levels while I will be suitable to the NASSP’s selection criteria. After that, I will come
back to Rwanda and start working for Rwandese or foreign industrials present in my
country, and I think it will a first considerable opportunity to contribute to Rwanda’s
development growth in science and technology.
There are two main reasons for wishing to pursue graduate studies in Astrophysics and
Space Science. First, while I was being offered the courses of Astronomy and
Astrophysics, and General relativity and cosmology at university respectively by Dr.
CONDACOVA Elena and Dr. MAHARA Isidore, I found that universe is beyond about
what we know only through the observation, and I was consequently fascinated by the
will of discovering the more about the origin of the universe and the nature of dark
energy. Second, the lack of experts in Science and Technology, especially Space science,
in our country pushing me to master in Astrophysics and Space Science.
In my undergraduate studies, I had acquired the enough theoretical knowledge in
Mathematics and Physics. Really, I am now willing to broaden my knowledge in these
courses to their application in real world.
In addition, regarding to the use of computer tools in calculation and simulations is of
capital interest in nowadays science researches, I had acquired a necessary basic
knowledge in it through the courses of Numerical analysis and Programming with Dr.
NTAGANDA Jean Marie and Modeling in Physics with Prof. CONDACOVA Oleg.
Therefore, I have confident that this background in Mathematics, Physics and computer
literacy will allow me to excellently succeed my postgraduate studies in Astrophysics and
Space Science while I will be admitted.
The choice of National Astrophysics and Space Science Programme (NASSP) as
Scholarship through which I will continue my studies in high level is due to its a long
history of excellence and a sound high-tech infrastructure in astronomy, and a South
Africa’s clear skies which involve in space science research facilities.
This choice is also due to the South Africa’s amicable culture and the motivation got
from my friends, who are currently studying in South Africa. They admire NASSP.
I have strongly fancy to study in South Africa through NASSP. The universities in South
Africa, especially University of Cape Town, provide a foundation for understanding the
application of science by giving an opportunity to experience science professional
through co-operative science programs, service learning, internship and hand on work
experiments in laboratory courses.
I believe that studying in University of Cape Town under NASSP will be profitable to
me, my community, my country and the whole world. I will be competent in my work
because of excellent professional work. I also expect to be a future lecturer at university
to help students raise their knowledge through research and teaching for their upcoming
careers. I will be implicated in providing social assistance and leadership in a
professional conduct.
In short, I believe my study and research experience at University of Cape Town under
NASSP, together with the strong market demands and profiting policies in Rwanda will
help me greatly to achieve all my career aspirations. I am looking forward to start this
exciting journey to my long cherished career goal.
