Students may identify similarities and differences in the civilizations’ arts, education, writing, social classes, religion, government, and/or economy. Writing must include the information outlined in the rubric below. Introduction – 10 points 1. Paragraph 1 a. Paragraph must introduce the topic; have a topic sentence, and a thesis statement. b. Your thesis statement should be specific—it should cover only what you will discuss in your paper and should be supported with specific evidence. c. For example – Ancient China, Egypt, and India had similarities and differences in the social classes, religion, arts, and means of communication. Body – 30 points 1. Paragraph 2 a. This paragraph will discuss at least two ways China and India are similar and two ways they are different. You must use evidence from the text to support your similarities and differences. 2. Paragraph 3 a. This paragraph will discuss at least two ways India and Egypt are similar and two ways they are different. You must use evidence from the text to support your similarities and differences. 3. Paragraph 4 a. This paragraph will discuss at least two ways China and Egypt are similar and two ways they are different. You must use evidence from the text to support your similarities and differences. Conclusion – 10 points 1. Paragraph 5 b. This paragraph will briefly sum up the ways in which three civilizations are similar and the ways they are different. Writing must be written in complete sentences; use transition words, and have the correct use of capitalization and punctuation. Writing must be neat, on topic, and include meaningful similarities and differences. Assignment will be done primarily in class. Venn diagram should be completed by the end of class on Monday, May 12, 2014. Students will begin rough draft on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Students will write final draft on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Students are expected to use all notes and the text book as a resource in their writing.
