Fluid Technology
Hose lines for the latest-generation engines
 Lighter and more heat resistant
 Solutions for waste heat recovery and dual fuel
 Products help to save costs
Louisville, Kentucky, March 2015. When it comes to lines for all media flow -, truck manufacturers
are optimally equipped with solutions from ContiTech for current and future challenges. Oil and
coolant hoses for high-temperature applications are some of the highlights that ContiTech Fluid
Technology presents during the Mid America Truck Show 2015 in Louisville/Kentucky.
Today's hose lines: lighter and more heat resistant
Weight, thus fuel saving is still one of the biggest challenges for manufacturers of modern trucks.
With the newest generation of oil and coolant hoses for high-temperature applications, aluminumtube air conditioning hose lines as well as a polyamide tube-hose combination for low pressure
applications, ContiTech provides products that help manufacturers master these challenges.
The new generation of lightweight oil and coolant hoses are primarily used in engine peripherals –
for turbocharger cooling and lubrication, engine cooling or exhaust gas recirculation. Where
previously steel braided or Teflon hoses were applied, ContiTech now uses very lightweight rubber
hoses adapted to the increasing temperatures in the engine environment. Coolant hoses are
designed for temperatures up to 190°C, and peaks to 210 °C, and oil hoses handle continuous
temperatures up to 230 °C, with peaks up to 250 °C. In addition, these media-resistant hoses are
more flexible than previous hoses, enabling various hose installations and pre-forming if
necessary.

-2When it comes to air conditioning lines, ContiTech presents a reliable veneer air conditioning hose,
which in combination with aluminum tube elbows, provides a weight-saving hose line and lowest
leak rate available. The polyamide tube-hose combination developed by ContiTech for low
pressure applications in the constantly growing PA product portfolio also follows the trend towards
weight and cost savings. ContiTech leverages the process competence from the Fluid Technology
business unit long standing experience in synthetic material production.
Tomorrow's hose lines: waste heat recovery and dual fuel are the topics of tomorrow
A topic for the future, which ContiTech is already paying attention to today is the recovery of
exhaust heat (waste heat recovery). This involves use of exhaust to heat an additional medium,
then feeding the resulting gas into the engine to assist the motor in optimal fuel consumption.
ContiTech is already has developed hose lines for this specific application.
Dual fuel, the combined injection of gas and diesel fuels, is another topic for the future that
ContiTech is developing. The newest generation of fuel hoses provides the ideal basis for this
application. ContiTech’s new elastomer fuel lines have been adapted to meet increasing pressures
and temperatures of truck engine compartments; currently able to operate at pressures of 500psi
and temperatures up to 135°C with increase tolerances currently being tested at ContiTech.
The emerging trend, primarily in Europe and North America, of using alternative fuels in trucks is
being developed by ContiTech and supporting customers with hose assemblies for CNG and LNG.
