Prom Guide Jr. Writer’s Contest ($1,000, published in Prom Guide Magazine) Any high school senior graduating in 2015 is eligible to enter. Students must create a log-in at PromGuide.com under the Scholarships tab. Write a 250 – 300 word article on Prom or a topic related to Prom and email it to scholarships@promguide.com by December 10th, 2014. The national winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship and have their article published in Prom Guide Magazine in June 2015. NEED Leadership ($5,000 over 4 years) African American senior student in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Washington, or Westmoreland County; resident of at least 1 year prior to entering an accredited post-secondary institution Minimum 3.5 GPA; 1500 SAT score (Math, Reading and Writing) or 21 ACT score Interested students should see Ms. Trevithick for the NEED Leadership Scholarship Application. Deadline to submit is December 15th. Apply online at: www.axa.scholarshipamerica.org Must plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year school in the US Apply by December 15th, 2014 – only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted 1 Burger King Scholars Program ($1,000 - $50,000) Students must be graduating seniors with a 2.5 or higher GPA, who plan to enroll full-time in a 2-year or 4-year college/university/vo-tech school for the entire 2015-2016 school year There is also a Burger King Employee-based track for this scholars program available to anyone who works at or is the child of a Burger King employee. Recipients are selected based on their GPA, work experience, extracurricular activities and/or community service. GE-Reagan Foundation ($10,000 renewable for 3 additional years) This national program awards college scholarships to high school seniors who embody the characteristics of President Ronald Reagan (Leadership, Drive, Integrity, Citizenship) at school, in the community, in the workplace, and at home. Additional Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA Demonstrate financial need 12th grade students who are US Citizens attending high school or are home-schooled. Plan to enroll in a full-time toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2015-2016 academic year PA Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Foundation ($500) The Pennsylvania JCI Senate awards two $500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors that are PA residents. The applications of the two winners from Pennsylvania will then be sent to the United States JCI Senate Foundation for consideration of the national grant of $1,000. More information can be found at www.usjcisenate.org in the scholarship program tab. You may include up to 3 letters of recommendation with your application, so be sure to ask for these in advance if you plan on applying for this scholarship. Interested students should turn in a transcript request form to Ms. Trevithick by Tuesday, January 6th. The complete application must be mailed by January 9th, 2015. 3 National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame – Pittsburgh Chapter ($5,000) Eligible students are high school seniors who are varsity student-athletes, with high academic achievement and financial need, and who will graduate in June 2015. See Ms. Trevithick for an application by Friday, January 9th. The application is due January 15th . NEED Historical Black College/University (HBCU) Tour Scheduled March 27th–April 4th to see 14 HBCU across Eastern/Southeastern US For 10th and 11th grade African American students in good standing academically, behaviorally, and with satisfactory school attendance. Cost of the tour is $700. Students must submit the following by January 15th : BHS Transcript (turn in form) Letter of Recommendation 300 word essay on “Why I want to go on the Historically Black College Tour” Student/parent must complete the mandatory orientations at the Carnegie Library in Homewood.
