NORTH ROCKS/CARLINGFORD CASUAL CHILD
CARE CENTRE NEWSLETTER
November 2012
Dear Parents;
We are quickly approaching the end of 2012 and the days are just turning into weeks and before we
know Christmas is going to be on our doorstep!! The past few months have been a testing time for
all families with lots of bugs out there making our children sick and I know from speaking to many of
our families that everyone is looking forward to a nice warm summer to get rid of all these nasty
bugs!! Fortunately we have not had too many contagious diseases spread through the centre this
year and the contributing factors to this have been you as parents for your compliance to the
centres sickness policies as well as the high quality of hygiene practises that our staff put in place
each day. Sure we have had children off sick but the spread of these sicknesses to other children in
the centre has definitely been minimal. I know of some centres which have had about 10 children at
a time down with the same illness. I would like to suggest as an extra precaution again sickness, that
your child and yourself wash or sanitise your hands on arrival and departure from the centre. There
is a catchy song which you can sing with your children as you wash your hands to make it a fun
process and I will include it in this month’s newsletter.
As you are all aware we increased our fees very slightly from July 1 this year. This has seen a much
needed positive growth in our takings each day and added to the fact that we have been in high
demand for local families the centre has been doing ok! So many preschools and long day care
centres have extensive waiting lists and this has also added to the amount of permanent children
we have using our centre. Just as growth occurs so do bills!!! Would you ever have believed a
children’s toilet bowl would cost $560?? Last month we had to replace one of our children’s toilet
bowls and yes the bill amounted to over $800!! For $560 you don’t even get toilet seat that was an
additional $150. Anything not of generic size has an extra tax obviously!! As a charity we are a not
for profit organisation therefore any of our profits are spent within the centre, we would like to
think that in the coming years we will be able to build up our profit and be able to purchase more
equipment and update resources. Please spread the word about us and if you are on Facebook be
sure to “LIKE” our page which will promote added awareness of our service.

Our Program
Our centre has been quite busy the past few months and so have the children! We have been providing
a large variety of experiences for our children from messy coloured pasta play, face painting, making
musical instruments, cooking, science experiences, gross motor games, role play experiences and so
much more. We were very fortunate during the October school holidays to have a visit from one of our
Mum’s who is a high school science teacher. Eden’s Mummy Anita spent a whole morning here and she
came with some very exciting activities. The children made sultanas dance in vinegar; they learnt about
colour separation by dropping water onto water based texta drawings and also did some tie dying. We
really encourage family participation so if you have any hidden talents we would love to hear about
them!! Even if you would like to come and do some dancing with the children or read them a story.
The children show a huge interest in anything new and would love anything you had in mind. You may
have noticed the restaurant we had set up recently for our meal times in the classroom. We had table
cloths, placemats and lovely plants in the middle of the table. The children really loved this dining area
and we are continuing to provide special table set ups for the children to share their meals with their
friends. Meal times are a very social event here and we like to encourage children to feel like it is an
enjoyable part of their day and not just a routine!
The children are still really into the old favourites like play dough, painting, art & craft and the sandpit.
We like to keep these experiences basic in order to encourage the children to use their creativity to
make and do what they wish. This includes asking staff for things they would like to use and choosing
materials for themselves.
Halloween was huge this year!! We had a massive demand for places that day and almost everyone
dressed up! We had skeletons, ghosts, witches, princesses, superheroes, pirates and all sorts of other
characters!! The centre looked great with all the decorations and the children enjoyed trick or treating
at the cubby house, making chocolate spiders and doing Halloween art and craft! In the coming months
we will be focusing our program on Christmas, with lots of Christmas art & craft to decorate our centre,
songs and stories!
