The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17 NKJV)
1 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the
house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything
that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water
under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the
Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the
children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing
mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments.
3 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not
hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do
all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it
you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male
servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is
within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth,
the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord
blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land
which the Lord your God is giving you.
6 “You shall not murder.
7 “You shall not commit adultery.
8 “You shall not steal.
9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's
wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey,
nor anything that is your neighbor's.”

Hammurabi’s Code
Prologue
When the lofty Anu,…and Enlil, lords of heaven and earth…committed the rule of all mankind to
Marduk…at that time Anu and Enlil named me, Hammurabi, the exalted prince, the worshiper of
the gods to cause righteousness to prevail in the land, to destroy the wicked and the evil, to
prevent the strong from plundering the weak…to enlighten the land and to further the welfare of
the people.

If a man bring an accusation against a man, and charge him with a capital crime, but
cannot prove it, he, the accuser, shall be put to death.
3. If a man has borne false witness in a trial, or has not established the statement that he has
made, if that case be a capital trial, that man shall be put to death.

If anyone steal the property of a temple or of the court, he shall be put to death, and also
the one who receives the stolen thing from him shall be put to death.
148 If a man take a wife and she become afflicted with disease, and if he set his face to take
another, he may. His wife, who is afflicted with disease, he shall not put away. She shall
remain in the house, which he has built, and he shall maintain her as long as she lives.
129. If a man's wife be caught lying with another, they shall be strangled and cast into the
water. If the wife's husband would save his wife, the king can save his servant.
153 If a woman bring about the death of her husband for the sake of another man, they shall
impale her.
195 If a son strike his father, they shall cut off his fingers.
196 If a man destroy the eye of another man, they shall destroy his eye.
200 If a man knock out a tooth of a man of his own rank, they shall knock out his tooth.
169. If he has committed a grave crime against his father, which cuts off from sonship, for the
first offense he shall pardon him. If he has committed a grave crime a second time, the father
shall cut off his son from sonship.
229 If a builder build a house for someone, and does not construct it properly, and the house
which he built fall in and kill its owner, then that builder shall be put to death.
230 If it kill the son of the owner the son of that builder shall be put to death.
231 If it ruin goods, he shall make compensation for all that has been ruined

10 Commandments/Hammurabi’s Code Activity
For this assignment you have a choice of two options:
1. Choose 1 law of Moses and 1 punishment of Hammurabi that match.
Write out the law with the punishment at the top of the page and then
illustrate the sequence of events. It can be a panel cartoon or just one
drawing to show the crime and punishment.
2. Or you may choose to write your own Commandments for 2013. If you
do this you must write 10 Commands and have 10 Punishments to fit
the crimes. Give your Law Code a name and number your list.
