Department of Entomology College of Agricultural and Natural Sciences Position Announcement: Entomology RANK: Assistant Professor/Assistant Entomologist, 9-month, tenure-track appointment available starting July 1, 2014. Appointment level and salary commensurate with experience. LOCATION: Department of Entomology, University of California, Riverside, California, http://www.entomology.ucr.edu POSITION: Insect Evolutionary Genomics. The Department of Entomology invites applications for a tenure-track position, 9-month appointment, available July 1, 2014. The position has 25% Instruction and Research and 75% Organized Research in the Agricultural Experiment Station http://cnas.ucr.edu/about/anr/. Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Entomology, Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Evolution, Ecology, or a related discipline. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred. The emphasis of research will be on the analysis of genome-scale data to reveal insect evolutionary relationships and identify specific pathways, genes, and mutations driving insect diversification and ecological adaptation. A combination of experimental and computational methodologies is expected with a focus on the production and analysis of next-generation sequencing data. Candidates with experience using population genomic, systems biology, and/or phylogenomic approaches in non-model insects are strongly encouraged to apply. Discovery and development of novel genetic targets for pestiferous insect control is encouraged. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop an extramurally funded research program to conduct basic and applied research in the broad area of insect evolutionary genomics. Teaching responsibilities include mentoring of graduate students, participation in undergraduate instruction (e.g. entomology, genetics, ecology, or evolution), as well as a graduate course taught in an area of interest. Interactions with the other research groups in interdepartmental programs are encouraged. Participation in the Institute for Genome Biology, Center for Invasive Species Research, Center for Disease Vector Research, the Center for Integrative Biological Collections, and the Center for Conservation Biology is encouraged.
