Lesson overview: As the students had been learning about forces, I had planned with my associate teacher as well as the teachers from the other grade three class, to have the students create ‘splatter art’. This involved the students testing the impact of gravity on objects which varied in surface area and weight. To do so, students were to take turns dipping an object in paint and dropping it from a raised height. Students were to record the object, their prediction of how much it would splatter, and the actual result on a work sheet while it was their classmates turn to drop the object. My focus of this lesson was classroom and behaviour management, as I felt it would be easy for the students to become overly excited and misbehave, in turn causing an unsafe environment for themselves and other students. The following are pictures of the processes I put in place in order to create and maintain a safe and challenging learning environment for my class. Characteristics presented throughout this artefact: 5.1 Establish clear expectations of behaviour for a safe learning environment for all students, including learning environments utilised outside school environments 5.3 Be aware and can use a range of strategies to establish a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students can learn and are challenged 5.4 Work within the legal and ethical framework expected of all teachers and maintain appropriate professional relationships with students
