Job summary:
REQUIMTE offers Research Positions to do research that will be focused on the synthesis and
assessment of the toxicological and biodistribution properties of nanoparticles, and on the study of the
interaction between nanoparticles and proteins. The main objective is to study the impact of shape, size,
material and surface chemistry of nanoparticles in the toxicological effects of nanoparticles and in the
development of biosensors. Applicants should have 2 years’ experience at post-doc level and a good
publication record.

The work to be developed is the synthesis of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles with controlled
size/shape/and surface chemistry, characterization of the nanoparticles, and study of the interaction of
nanoparticles with proteins and enzymes. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with proven
experience (at a PhD level) in any of these areas and that can contribute to enhance and complement
our research interests.
The candidate must have a PhD in Chemistry or related field and preference will be given to candidates
that have experience in nanoparticle synthesis and surface modification, as well as characterization
techniques for nanoparticles (specially TEM, SEM, AFM, DLS, fluorescence and UV/vis spectrosocopy),
and in the field of research of the host laboratory. A significant background and experience is expected
and will be evaluated according to publications in international refereed scientific journals.

materials comprise hybrid nanocatalysts prepared by immobilization of homogeneous catalysts such as
metallocomplexes into carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, carbon nanofibers and graphene. Applicants

expertise in mass spectrometry and proteomics. It is expected that the candidate must be able to utilize
an array of different instruments and methods (LTQ-orbitrap-MS, ESI-Q-TOF-MS, MALDI-TOF/TOF-MS,
HPLC and LC-MS. Candidates should hold a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related area, at least 2

Researcher position
REQUIMTE is seeking for a highly motivated researcher with proven experience in the application of
mass spectrometric methods in the analysis of chemical compounds and biological samples. In order to
ensure an effective integration in our research environment we are looking for a researcher with a
multi-disciplinary profile that can contribute to enhance and complement the research interests of the
institution. The researcher will be required to analyze biological samples and experience in proteomic
approaches is mandatory. In addition, previous experience in the study and characterization of organic
and organometallic compounds will be taken into consideration. Research will be undertaken at the
Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. The newly established facilities are equipped with state of the art
instruments such as the LTQ-orbitrap-MS, Q-TOF-MS and MALDI-TOF/TOF-MS mass spectrometers. The
candidates are expected to have skills in the utilization of the mentioned instruments. Additionally,
candidates must have expertise in hyphenated liquid chromatography mass spectrometry
methodologies (LC-MS), thus being expected to have solid knowledge in chromatographic methods
(HPLC). Candidates with knowledge of spectroscopic methods, namely NMR and EPR, allowing the
integration of the research developed at the mass spectrometry laboratory with this research field will
be favoured.
The candidate will be asked to design experiments, write laboratory protocols and procedures, work
with collaborators, prepare manuscripts and grant applications, and deliver oral presentations. Beside
the general laboratory management functions, the job responsibilities will include providing technical
and scientific support to undergoing research projects and the day to day supervision of junior research

Physics, Biophysics and Analytical chemistry. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with proven
experience in any of these areas that can contribute to enhance and complement our research interests
in the area of Nanochemistry and Nanostructured Materials. The main focus will be in the synthesis and
characterization of distinct nanostructures (liposomes, quantum dots, biosilica nanoparticles) as well as
the design of template assisted methods for the synthesis of nanotubes (e.g. silica nanotubes; carbon
nanotubes). It is required expertise in all the fundamental characterization techniques (TEM, SEM, AFM,
SAXS, WAXS, GIXD, DSC, DLS, ELS, IRRAS) that will be used for appropriate tailoring of the developed
nanostructures.
The successful candidate is expected to design experiments, write laboratory protocols and procedures,
work with collaborators, prepare draft manuscripts and grant applications, and deliver oral
presentations. Other responsibilities include the training and daily supervision of other members of the
research group, general management of laboratory resources and participation in institutional activities.

performed in Porto in an excellent environment with state-of-the-art facilities, but visits to other
research institutes and universities in Portugal and abroad are encouraged.
