Clinical responsibilities consistent with role of Consultant Psychiatrist Post base: Non Office-based (see job hazard analysis) Level: Job purpose To undertake research focusing on ADHD and related disorders as a member of the Institute for Disorder on Impulse and Attention (IDIA) in line with the Academic Unit’s research strategy To supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects within the academic unit of psychology To participate in administration within the academic unit of psychology To work alongside clinical colleagues in CAMHS to provide a service for the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with mental health problems focussing on ADHD and related disorders. To give clinical oversight of the South Hampshire ADHD Register (SHARe) and to provide liaison between CAMHS and the University to facilitate collaborative research in ADHD and related disorders Key Clinical accountabilities/primary responsibilities (0.2 FTE Clinical Work Component) 1. To provide a service for the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with mental health problems focussing on ADHD and related disorders and provide advice and supervision of treatment programmes by members of the CAMHS clinical team There will be 1.75 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC), and 0.25 PAs supporting professional activity (SPA) 2. To provide consultation and advice to other clinical agencies working with children and young people including paediatricians, schools, community paediatricians, social services, education and voluntary agencies 3. To support the role of other agencies, in particular social services, education and voluntary agencies working with young people and to liaise with these and with other local services e.g. adult mental health and primary care. To attend meetings and conferences with other agencies as required and where time permits 4. To work positively with CAMHS colleagues to maintain clinically effective relationships 5. To ensure that clinical practice reflects quality and effectiveness as determined by evidence-based research as far as possible. To participate in peer supervision with other professionals in the service. 6. To comply with Solent NHS Trust clinical governance and other standing operational requirements 7. To work with Solent NHS Trust in managing demands placed on the service 8. To provide medical advice to management directly and indirectly via the child psychiatrists consultants’ meeting, joint meetings with paediatricians and via the Clinical Lead and the Head of Paediatrics 9. To attend meetings with other consultant colleagues as appropriate, particularly the monthly child and adolescent psychiatry consultants’ meeting, and with paediatric colleagues 10. To take responsibility for additional tasks as required, following discussion with colleagues, e.g. involvement in strategic developments, organisation of specialist registrar training, membership of various committees etc. 11. To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and to accurately and comprehensively record clinical activities as required and communicate with referrers by letter and telephone, according to the protocols within the service 12. To participate in the appraisal system for consultants, reviewed by the lead clinician and Responsible Officer 13. To participate in an annual review of the post-holder’s job description and work programme with the lead clinician and service manager. 14. To take part in audit activities as appropriate and to comply with requirements for appraisal and GMC revalidation 15. To participate in the Solent CAMHS out of hours rota, at present 1 week in 12 remunerated with an availability supplement of 1% of basic salary and with no extra payment of out of hours PA time 18. The post holder may with his /her agreement, which should not be withheld unreasonably, be required to undertake other duties as required which fall within the grading of this post, to meet the needs of the service. Key University accountabilities (0.5 FTE role in the Psychology Academic Unit) 19. To undertake research as a member of the Institute for Disorder of Impulse and Attention on ADHD and related problems. To develop and carry out an area of personal research, related to ADHD ensuring high-level scientific quality and impact through collaboration and dissemination, as appropriate. 20. To provide supervision for UG and PG project students in the Psychology Academic Unit in line with the teaching objectives of Psychology. Deliver supervision of the highest quality. On occasions to undertake other forms of teaching as requested by the HoAU. 21. To contribute to the efficient management and administration of Psychology by performing personal administrative duties as allocated by the Head. 22. To provide clinical oversight for the South Hampshire ADHD Register (SHARe) and other clinically related projects related the assessment and treatment of ADHD. 23. Carry out management and administrative tasks associated with specified research funding, including risk assessment of project activities, organisation of project meetings and documentation and preparation of annual reports. To oversee and implement procedures required to ensure accurate and timely formal reporting and financial control. 24. To secure grant funding for research in the field of ADHD and related disorders. 25. To be a member of the Developmental Brain-Behaviour Laboratory and to attend meetings regularly. 26. To regularly publish papers of international quality. Document1 3 University Internal and external relationships An internal relationship will be developed and maintained with the Academic Unit Board, Examination Board and such committees that are relevant to its administrative duties. In particular, new appointees will be assigned a senior colleague to guide their development and aid their integration into Psychology and the University. Teaching and administrative duties will be allocated by the Head of Psychology, within the context of the teaching programmes agreed by the Academic Unit Programmes Board. The appointee will be a member of the Institute for Disorders of Impulse and Attention with the Developmental Brain-Behaviour Laboratory and will work closely with their director and other affiliated colleagues.
